Paul Drinkhall of Great Britain overcomes Yang Zi to progress to the third round!

Paul Drinkhall had Great Britain watching on the edges of their seats today as he faced Singapore's Yang Zi in round 2 of the London 2012 Olympics. The London Excel Arena packed out with 5,000 spectators jumped to joy as Paul Drinkhall won match point with a superb forehand fade!

Once again Drinkhall stormed out of the blocks, similar to his first round performance. Paul won the short game and managed to attack on every opportunity causing Singapore's Yang Zi many problems. Yang couldn't get any rhythm and Paul raced into a 3 set to 0 lead (11-7, 11-7, 11-8). Yang Zi was not prepared to give up just there. Yang Zi raced into a 8-2 lead and went on to win the set shifting momentum his way. Was the come back on?

The fifth set was close, both players making no unforced errors. The crowd was nervous as the set progressed to 9-9. Yang Zi serving to his advantage. Paul attacked aggressively with his backhand and followed up with a tremendous forehand winner! Paul won the next point on a superb forehand fade, jumping to joy as he won the match!

Congratulations to Paul Drinkhall who will face Germany's Dimitrij Ovtcharov in the third round tomorrow!
