China captured their third gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics yesterday on the 7th August 2012 overcoming Japan! For Japan it was an honour to receive a silver medal as this was Japan's first time at any Olympic Games.

China's trio of Ding Ning, Li Xiaoxia and Guo Yue defeated Japan's delegate's Ai Fukuhara, Kasumi Ishikawa and Sayaka Hirano by three matches to nil.

In the opening match up China's Li Xiaoxia overcome Japan's Ai Fukuhara in a spectacular display of consistent top spinning attacks. Xiaoxia's strong top spin proved to strong to the Japanese stars backhand which separated this match and Li won in four sets 11-6, 9-11, 11-2, 11-5.

In the second match of this London 2012 Olympic Team Final encounter, Ding Ning (pictured below) defeated Japan's Kasumi Iishikawa in three sets with 11-4, 12-10. 11-4.

In the third and final match Guo Yue and Li Xiaoxia stood authority in the doubles match against Kasumi Ishikawa and Sayaka Hirano and won by three sets to one with scores 11-6, 11-3, 9-11, 11-5.

All smiles for the Chinese National team including head coach Shi Zhihao. Ding Ning was smiling greatly, even though her heartbreak in the womens singles final of the London 2012 Olympics.

Congratulations to China and to Japan's hard fought efforts making this a truly spectacular final be part of!
