China completed their clean sweep of gold medals today, winning all 4 gold medals in the 2012 Olympics. China have won 24 out of 28 gold medals since the sport entered the games in 1988.

The Chinese team only dropped 2 sets on their way to their 3-0 victory of the South Korean team.

The first game saw Ma long take on Ryu Seungmin in a display of pure speed from the world number 2. The atmosphere in the arena seemed to pick the player up, helping him reach a level of skill that was outstanding to watch.

Ryu Sengamin put in a great effort but seemed to suffer from the limitations of his style of play. Ma Long took the first two sets 11-6 but had a brief set back in the third set, due to what seemed to be nerves, and lost the end 11-6. However, the last end saw him return to top form and he took the end easily 11-4.

The next match saw new Olympic champion, Zhang Jike take on world number 10, Joo Saehyuk. Joo Saehyuk left the audience shocked as he showcased his amazing defensive skills against Zhang Jike’s consistent attacks. Nevertheless, after winning the first set and then losing the second, Zhang Jike established a rhythm and took the game 11-8 in the fourth.

The doubles match was to follow and both teams were surely feeling the nerves that come with this kind of atmosphere.

Zhang Jike and Wang Hao took on Oh Sangeun and Ryu Seungmin. The Chinese team took no prisoners appearing to leave the Koreans behind. They took the game in three sets, 11-4, 11-8 and 11-6, a fantastic end to a fantastic tournament for the Chinese team.

Congratulations to the Chinese team on their incredible performances throughout the games and to the South Koreans on their success as well.

Congratulations also go out to the German team who won the bronze medal earlier today.
