Today on the 30th September 2012, China's Ma Long is crowned the Men's Singles World Cup Champion defeating Germany's Timo Boll in 4 straight sets with scores 11-4, 11-3, 11-8, 11-9

A superb comeback from Ma Long was made in the World Cup as he lost in the group stages to Chuang Chih Yuan however determined as ever Ma Long won all the subsequent matches without dropping a single set, against Paul Drinkhall, Michael Maze, Xu Xin and eventually Timo Boll in the final!

On route to the final Timo Boll was unbeaten as he defeated Jiang Tianyi (HKG) and Adrien Mattenet (FRA) in the group stages, he waltzed past expert defender Joo Se Hyuk (KOR) 4-0 before defeating three-time World Cup Champion Vladimir Samsonov (BLR) 4-2. The final was full of quality with Ma Long playing at a level no one in the world seems to be able to match.


In the opening set Ma Long raced into a 7-4 lead blitzing his forehand in all corners of the table. Long maintained this momentum and won the first set 11-4. In the second set Ma Long fully pumped extended his lead to 5-1. Ma Long maintained this notion and won the second set 11-3.

Jorg Rosskopt (Bolls Coach) must have gave good advice as Boll took a 6-3 lead in the third set for the first time. The German star maintained this lead until Ma Long made a comeback to 8-8. Ma Long the 23 year old from China won the next 5 points and was now 1 set away from being crowned World Cup Champion!

Ma Long maintained his superb concentration and two winged attacking shots and won the fourth set 11-9. Boll gave his all but it was not good enough on the day, and a delighted Ma Long pumped his first into the air with joy!
