The Award ceremony will be held in Rio de Janeiro Brazil and will unfold on 11th March 2013. The Chinese national team was nominated in December 2012 for the best team award this season. It is said that Liu Guoliang is very much looking forward to the event.

The new head coach commented in a recent interview “I am very grateful that table tennis has got the attention in such an event, I think this along with the attendance of both idols Jike and Ning will contribute a large amount to the development of table tennis”.

When Guoliang was asked why he sent Zhang Jike and Ding Ning to represent the Chinese National Team he replied “both players are the idols of the new generation of table tennis and as we are the only nominated Chinese team it’s an excellent opportunity for the entire sport.”

He also added “Table tennis is not like the bigger sports such as football and basketball, our nomination is already an affirmation, they chose to nominate us because of the team’s strength and position in world table tennis.”

Other nominees include the European Ryder Cup team (golf), NBA’s Miami Heat (basketball), Red Bull Team (F1), Spanish Football team and the American Basketball team.
