Borussia Dusseldorf celebrated its eleventh victory in the Bundesliga, however European champion Timo Boll couldn’t completely celebrate the win as he injured himself whilst warming up.

Boll experienced some pain on his chest whilst warming up for his match against Cedric Nyutinck but with Borussia already a player down due to Christian Suss resting with an injury he decided to go ahead with the match and play. Going into the match the pain was beginning to show in Boll’s game with him playing a very passive game mainly blocking and only attacking with his backhand. He lost the first two sets 8-11 before realising he could no longer continue and it was best for him to withdraw from the match.

Borussia’ manager Andreas Preuss stated that Boll was feeling some discomfort and pain in his chest whilst warming up but wanted to go ahead with the match, he also explained how Boll felt the pain increased during the match forcing him to withdraw. It became apparent after the match that he had injured his Pectoral muscle.

Preuss commented “I hope Timo can recover soon and play the play-offs” Boll and his team will face Werder Bremen of Chuang Chih-Yuan in semi-finals. Hopefully Boll will be fit enough for his match against Bremen at the end of the month and so be able to take part in the upcoming World Table Tennis Championships in Paris in May.
