Defending Champions Xu Xin & Liu Shiwen Retain Their Titles At The Asian Cup!

Defending champions Xu Xin and Liu Shiwen retained their titles at the Gac Group Asian Cup, which concluded in Hong Kong’s Queen Elizabeth Stadium on Sunday 14th April 2013.

The pair justified their top seeded places as Liu Shiwen overcame Wu Yang in five games (11-3, 11-6, 15-13, 3-11, 11-6) meanwhile Xu Xin defeated teammate Yan An who has recently been on form in a six game dual (4-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-9, 7-11, 11-9).

Third place in the women’s was taken by Japans Kasumi Ishikawa who defeated Koreas Seok Hajung in five games (11-9, 12-10, 11-3, 4-11, 11-7) meanwhile the bronze in the men’s event was claimed by Chinese Taipei’s Chuang Chih-Yuan.

Throughout the tournament the unstoppable Chinese duo of proved why they were the top seeds for the tournament as they were both took gold, the two champions each left with well deserved cheque for $14000 with the runners-up collecting $7000 each.

It will be interesting to see if these two on form players be able to do the same and take gold at the upcoming 2013 World Table Tennis Championships in Paris in May.
