Zhang Zhihe was able to break records as he won his match in the first round of the championships 3-1, defeating a player several years older than him. The young star then continued his top form to take a match in the second round 3-0, unfortunately the third round proved too strong and he was knocked out of the competition 0-3.

Despite Zhang Zhihe not being a Japanese cititzen yet, there are high hopes for him to be representing Japan in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. After Fan Zhendong impressed everyone by becoming the youngest champion in the history of the world tour last year, it looks as though there may be a new rising star to watch out for.

Having parents who both play the sport, his mother Zhang Ling was a chopper and represented the Chinese team in the 1995 World Championships. This young boy is bound to be talented and it is safe to say that all eyes will be on the gifted youngster over the next few years.

Reaching the second round of the National Championships is a fantastic result for such a young player and one he and his parents should be very proud of, there is no doubt that this will not be the last time we see Zhang Zhihe.
