Since 1996 China have claimed the championship title in the Women’s World Cup and on only four occasions have they missed out on claiming the runners up title, this will make them the favourites for clinching that title.
The Chinese team will be sending their most experienced players to represent China and compete in the tournament, the team will be made up of Grand slam champion Li Xiaoxia and current world champion Ding Ning. Although these players are no doubt strong contenders for the competition it will be interesting to see how the pair fair with the adaptation of the new plastic ball.

Head coach Kong Linghui commented on the emphasis of this new adaptation and also on how his players will need to be on top form in order to defend the title, “We have just started training and the time is very short, but now that we have arrived we will give all of our strength in order to win the title. Both Ding Ning and Li Xiaoxia will have to prove themselves throughout this competition.”

With the new changes to the playing ball, this competition will be interesting putting players to the test. The question is, will this be the first time in many years that we will see a Chinese upset in the Women’s World cup?
