Men's Singles Draw

Number 1 seed for the men's singles Ma Long (World Number 1) is of course in the top half of the draw alongside Timo Boll, Chuang Chih Yuan, Marcos Freitas, Simon Gauazy and Jun Mizutani. If all goes to plan according to seeds Ma Long will meet Timo Boll in the quarter final and Jun Mizutani in the semi final.

In the bottom half of the draw number 2 seed and reigning Olympic Champion Zhang Jike (World Number 4) has Chen Chien An, Stefan Fegerl and Dimitrij Ovtcharov. Over the last year Zhang Jike has lost to all 3 of these players, will Zhang Jike prevail? If Dimitrij Ovtcharov finds form similar to the World Team Championships in 2014 when he defeated Zhang Jike 3-0 could we see a Ma Long and Dimitrij Ovtcharov final!?

One notable player to look out for in the bottom half of the draw is world number 9 Vladimir Samsonov. If all goes to plan according to seeding Samsonov will meet Ovtcharov in the quarter final stages.

In an interview with the ITTF Vladimir Samsonov expressed, "Ovtcharov and I are very good friends, we are team mates in the Russian league and we know one anothers games so well. But this is competition so we will give our best to fight and medal here in Rio".
