Germany have won their first European Games 2015 Table Tennis gold medal in the women’s team event final on Monday after a closely fought match against the Netherlands. Despite being favourites to win the event, Germany had tough competition against the Netherlands team.

German Team Champions! 2015 European Games

The first match was to be against Netherlands Li Jiao and Germanys Han Ying, the Netherlands player was able to give her team a 1-0 lead with a 3-0 victory over Han Ying. The Germans then equalised with Shan Xiaona claiming a 3-1 win over Li Jie.

Germany went on to win a closely fought doubles match 3-2, taking a 2-1 match lead. It was then Li Jie who was able to overcome Germanys Petrissa Solja with a 3-0 win which meant that the last match was to be the decider.

The final match saw Germany claim their gold medal as Han Ying was able to secure a 3-0 win over Netherlands player Britt Eerland.

Petrissa Solja commented on how she was overjoyed with the teams win, “My tension was much higher in this match than any competition before, I felt during the match that it would be great if we were the first ones to ever win gold at the first European Games, and we did!”
