Yes, it was me who wrote about using a damp sponge. But I find that result quite surprising. If you reglued, you're only adding material, not removing any. So the blade should have to wheigh at least as much as before you reglued. I think there might be something else in play...

I soak my sponge in water first, then squeeze it so it's a bit wet but not dripping. If you get it right, you'll be slightly watering down the glue as you're spreading it.

I agree that, if fextra is too quick, you won't be better off with BSS or victas swat. Go look for a 5ply all/all+ blade, I'm thinking a good old allround classic for example.

What problems are you experiencing? Hexer grip sfx is definitely not a fast rubber. Andro rubbers tend to be quite jumpy, but the hexer series not so much. What blade do you use?
