  1. Post your latest EJ purchase

Yup, that's the one. There's a new version this year with "Made in China" branding all over the packaging. The top sheet seems a little brittle and chips easily (similar to tenergy).
  2. Post your latest EJ purchase

Not sure; seems unlikely. That said Taobao seems to block purchasing of Butterfly products if you're in the US. That could just be China domestic pricing?

    Taobao, off https://shop118635088.world.taobao.com/ (Brother Gan).

Just got in: Pinyi Galaxy blade (Viscaria-ish), Pinyi Cuifeng blue sponge, Pinyi Tsunami (2024 version). Still waiting on Yinhe D715. The Pinyi setup feels pretty good, not a huge adjustment over a Viscaria but it feels a notch faster. Could just be the fresh rubbers considering my Viscaria...
  5. San Francisco looking for training partner.

@CallMeZaddy I'm curious - you mention the weight distribution - how does it differ from the normal Viscaria? Is the overall thickness identical? What about the ply thickness (as much as you can tell visually)? For example, the w968 has a visibly thinner core compared to the commercial Long...
  6. FS: Butterfly/Darker/Victas blades

Bump, small discount on the prices (shipping is now included).
  7. FS: Butterfly/Darker/Victas blades

Have some old blades that are well-used but still serviceable that I'm pricing aggressively to sell. All blades listed are FLARED and prices include shipping within the continental US. SOLD - Butterfly Timo Boll ALC, 86g SOLD - Butterfly Lin Gaoyuan ALC, 86g, comes with box $50 USD - Victas...
  8. Paris Olympic Games 2024

Butterfly Japan website says Ovtcharov ALC - could've been a pre-production blade that was sent to him for testing. The Viscaria handle is the "default" for their custom blades, so could be anything, but Butterfly Japan is pretty good about saying when players are using custom rackets.
  9. Paris Olympic Games 2024

Fun little tidbit I saw - Alexis stuck his racket in what looks like a Revolution Nr3 racket press after the match.
  10. Side tape REALLY change the feeling or not? What do you think?

🤷‍♂️ We can agree to disagree then, just offering my experience.
  11. Side tape REALLY change the feeling or not? What do you think?

The lightest edge tape I have is 2g assuming I tape around the whole racket head. I have some edge tape that is slightly thicker and likely weighs more. It can make the racket head feel slightly heavier. On a particularly head-heavy racket that I have, I can feel the difference with/without...
  12. Side tape REALLY change the feeling or not? What do you think?

There is a single, empirical difference - edge tape adds weight. Draw from that what conclusions you will.
  13. What forehand rubber should i use?

Tenergy would be the natural upgrade path, but G1 is also solid (and cheaper). It's less bouncy than Tenergy so you get less "easy power". I haven't played enough with G1 recently enough with Tenergy to tell if there's a difference at the top end of power. G1 has pretty good control though -...
  14. What happened to Darker?

I'm in a similar camp; currently play with a Darker 5p-2a and after switching from H3 to D09c absolutely love the feel of the racket. Would be interested in picking up a 5p-2a.Ri to see how it feels - it does look like Spruce to me (some of Xiom's new blades, like the Calderano TMX surface ply...
  15. why wait to dry the glue?

Curiously, wet gluing is Soulspin's recommended gluing method: https://soulspin.de/en/table-tennis-tutorials/wet-gluing-table-tennis-rubbers/
  16. New Xiom blades?

Thickness/density of the composites, directionality can all make a difference. While the thicknesses look pretty uniform, do we know for sure the composition is the same? The Hugo TMX and TMX LSS look like the blade surface has less visible wood grain compared to AJH/CDS blades. Combined with...
  17. New all-wood blade recommendations wanted

The good old Korbel is a great blade with a larger head size that can make the setup feel head heavy. I personally think the Yasaka Sweden Extra may be on the slow side, but probably will get the job done. For all-wood blades, I particularly like the Victas Koki Niwa Wood and the Darker 5p-2a...
  18. Matches from a good angle to learn from where pros use W968

@gordonluvsu I'm glad you took the time to clarify. I was skeptical, but open to the possibility that there are fundamental technique differences. That said, I'm inclined to agree more with @Tony's Table Tennis here. LJK/WCQ both transitioned from Viscaria to W968. Chen Meng went back and...
  19. Matches from a good angle to learn from where pros use W968

I think people are assuming the blade has a bigger factor in shot selection/style than it really does.
  20. Should I "upgrade" my all-wood 5-ply Kiso Hinoki?

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for. I did a back-to-back test of my 5p-2a against a W968 and it was just...too slow with H3. Trying to hit past a passive blocker (of a similar/lower level than I am) required me to overhit badly. Even with V20 DE it was far less dangerous than the...
