  1. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Got a lot of trips coming up, first one to Maui this Saturday, so went to the Alameda club's round robin today. I usually like it there because the RRs are giant, you get to play a lot of matches. Today however, the owner decided to change things up a month before his retirement. We were all...
  2. “Sealing effects performance”…. Is there any proof?

Works too well IMO! My Q-series Viscaria is not playable without grip tape now because the handle is just way too smooth now.
  3. WTT Champions Macao 2024, 9/9-15

Well, Duda improved his score each set, from 1 to 2 to 3! If it was a best of 21 games then he would've been on track to force a deuce eventually :ROFLMAO:
  4. San Francisco looking for training partner.

I have a specially made tiny bat to practice being mindful of contact point on the bat. It's actually surprisingly easy to play with. It's really the services that are more difficult, otherwise game play wasn't that different.
  5. WTT Champions Macao 2024, 9/9-15

BTW, did you guys notice that LJK appears to have lost some weight? I wonder if that's gonna make a difference for his game.

Wang Wei was coaching at my local club for quite a while, not sure where he's at now but should still be somewhere in California. She could have some lessons with him. He was charging $100 an hour, but maybe he can give her a discount for claiming her as a student. He's a SP chopper though...
  7. Post your latest EJ purchase

Have you tried combination dry/wet gluing? Like a layer on the blade and rubber, let dry, then a wet layer on the rubber and slap it on? I wonder if it can work similarly but still have a thicker glue layer. My concern is that while the glue is wet it may fill all the crevices, once it dries it...
  8. Fancy blades are just not worth it

That's my justification for owning 6 HL5/W968 while not playing with it. I'm supporting TT and my favorite player :ROFLMAO:
  9. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Had a good session at Pleasanton today. Played with a backup racket I just bought off of MyTT, a FZD ALC with H3 40.5 (a player version) and a D09c. The blade is the same weight as mine, and obviously the rubbers are pretty much the same as well, but it's 11 grams lighter  I know my grip...
  10. WTT Contender Almaty 2024 Sep 3-8

If it's from WTT they'd probably get their Pizza in March, maybe 🤭 With that said, they actually look like good pizza!

I'd advise you to keep playing there. I think it's an useful skill to be able to adjust to a different playing environments. I was having similar issues when I first played at the Alameda club which also has higher friction tables. At first I couldn't adjust for the entire session, then it...
  12. Table Tennis Crisis

Part of his issue is that he doesn't consider them as better opponents. Losing to 2200 opponents probably would not cause him anguish, he's stressed because he's losing to lower level opponents that he thinks he should beat. A mental adjustment is indeed needed as well, and the adjustment is...
  13. Table Tennis Crisis

It's not a chicken/egg situation, it's a cause and effect situation. The inability to cope with varying tempo is causing him to lose games which is causing him to stress out. Forcing shots will cause him to miss more and stress out more. It's also NOT clear from the videos that he can play...
  14. San Francisco looking for training partner.

It's kinda like inbetween a W968 and regular Vis.
  15. San Francisco looking for training partner.

I watched a Chinese equipment channel guy who said he spoke to a few blademakers, he says that they all think the golden Vis has some extra resin in the composite layer, making it a bit harder and heavier. Also that in order to balance out the heavier head, some weight is put into the otherwise...

I've had issues with that as well, many penholders are really good at that shot. I like to step back diagonally and cross-step that shot. If I can put a lot of spin with sidespin on it to their wide FH or BH then they tend to have a good deal of trouble with it. The sidespin makes it a bit...
  17. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Had a great practice session today. A lot of focus was placed on varying pace. We started on our robot actually, and I had him do the same drill I've been doing, with varying spins. He did just as terribly as I did lol. When he attempted the high spin/no spin alternating one, he missed...
  18. Table Tennis Crisis

That's what Fang Bo said when people asked about LGY's collapses vs LJK's excellence in tight games. He said the issue isn't mental, it's primarily technique. LGY uses a fast, direct, close to the table technique that's not very error tolerant, while LJK uses all his power (FB thinks he's the...
  19. Table Tennis Crisis

Hah, he looks like me playing the BH. I do great against people who just give me moderately paced simple topspins, but struggle when there are pace variations. IMO it's not a mindset issue, it's a technique issue. You play tentative when the ball makes you uncomfortable, and you're uncomfortable...
  20. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

You're absolutely right. I kept thinking "I know he serves fast to my BH 90% of the time, let me try to kill it", but he's got enough variations in spin, speed, and placement that I can't just pre-commit. Even when I make some good shots, the first one might work and surprise him, but if I can...
