Sometimes it's not easy to achieve such a balance, depending on the composition and desired weight range, but the preference has definitely been a low balance.

To the best of my knowledge, fibers like Texalium aren't really Aluminum , but Aluminum coated fabrics. I'm not sure if there are real aluminum fabrics out there, but I think they would be too heavy to use in a blade. Anyway, I already have so much stuff, I never really had the curiosity to try...

I wouldn't call the JSH a defensive blade in the first place, at least not considering its speed. The JSH can be as fast, if not faster, than a Korbel for example, the key point is the larger head size. So, is it going to be a defensive blade? Sure, if you use it for that purpose.

The JSH blade has a couple of wood layers which are very hard to find (maybe that's why it was discontinued by Butterfly), the composition is nothing like what's commonly written. I can substitute those layers for similar woods I do have, but the result won't be exactly the same.

Unfortunately I don't make one ply blades, I still wasn't able to source good quality material to make them.

Indeed it does 🤣. And this blade is 0.3mm thicker than your's with the composite layer closer to the surface.

You have a fair point, and I was suspicious at first too, so I made sure I wasn't kind on it during the building process. If it was able to withstand a router bit rotating at more than 22000rpm and some aggressive sanding, I think it will handle normal use just fine.

It wasn't a totally unsuccessful experiment. The weight changes allowed me to estimate the initial moisture content of the boards, and I learned my moisture content reader was giving me correct results. I also learned that the wood was pretty stable already, and that's the MC percentage it likes...

I put a bunch of Ayous cores in an oven once. Not to the extent of having a color change, but they lost some weight, only to regain it after a few days and causing one of the blades I used it in to warp. So it was not a successful experiment... I haven't tried anything after that. I do use...
