  4. Another Drama (DHS LONG 5 Provincial or Commercial

The commercial version uses what I call AyC, the aramid runs parallel to the grain of the outer ply and the carbon is transversal to that. The provincial and national versions use a plain weave A-C, this means it has both fibers in both directions. AyC gives more flexibility, but also a harder...
  5. Another Drama (DHS LONG 5 Provincial or Commercial

I don't know if it's fake or not, but the fiber used on the commercial and provincial versions is not the same. Judging from these pictures, the A-C on your blade has a weave pattern which is consistent with what's used on the commercial version,s and the other one has a weave pattern which is...

Then you already have more than me! The outcome can only be good 🙂
  8. SDC Handmade Blades

Thanks! I seal the face and edges of the blades with an acrylic varnish, but not the handles. On the handle I just use a bit of wax to bring out the colors sometimes. But if you do want to start making blades, I think that the kind of sealant you use is the least of your concerns 😅.
  9. SDC Handmade Blades

    I surely will 🙂.
  10. SDC Handmade Blades

Light and shade, this is how Jimmy Page describes his playing, it was the inspiration for this blade. The Light side is softer and more forgiving, while the Shade side is crisp and more direct. 15. SDC Handmade Blades

Ayous is lighter and softer than limba, so on a top ply, all else being equal, it would offer a lower weight, more flexibility and consequently a higher arc. It would feel softer, and I would expect a lower reaction, especially on higher impact. I really can't comment on that composition...
  16. SDC Handmade Blades

It doesn't make sense for me to have a catalog, I don't have a line of blades, every blade I make is different. All the useful information is on my website (www.sdcttblades.com), but it's not up to date, mainly the "materials" section.
  17. SDC Handmade Blades

I don't see any benefit in using a composite diagonally when it has different fibers in each direction. Can it work? Maybe. But it creates an asymmetry that can lead to warping problems. It makes sense when the composite is just one plain fiber, or the fabric has a symmetric weave pattern within...
  18. SDC Handmade Blades

You know how I use AxC fiber, that one achieves a softer touch (compared to regular A-C) by having the Aramid from side to side, and higher stiffness by having the Carbon up to down. Well, AyC is the exact opposite of that, the Carbon is running horizontally and the Aramid vertically, achieving...
  19. Crispest Blade you have used

Lodro is absolutely right here. Carl is trying to describe an intrinsic characteristic of the material with the wrong word. In their natural state these fibers are all pliable, they are just fabrics after all, it's not until you bond them with some sort of resin that you exploit their full...
  20. Butterfly Quality Broken blade after 20 hours of play

This thread is full of misinformation, Butterfly doesn't cut their blades, they sand them. ZLC doesn't apply any extra pressure on the core, that doesn't even make sense. It's just a layer that's bonded to the other ones. I still fail to see how the blade is "broken". Wood has defects, and the...
