  1. Czech Open 2019 (World Tour)

I don't care what anyone else says, Liu Weishan's tomahawk serve should be illegal. It's just too OP. It's like DN's tomahawk on steroid.
  2. Czech Open 2019 (World Tour)

It's funny to see Pletea struggle against Harimoto's pendulum serve, only for the table turn completely on Harimoto, who then struggles against Pletea's reverse pendulum serve. Such a dramatic match. If Pletea had tried the reverse pendulum serve earlier, the match might not have been so close.
  3. What's Wrong with Harimoto's FH?

Judging from most people's reply on this thread, my take-away is that good form is not important at all in tt. Surely, consistency and success isn't built on top of good forms derived from endless fundamental training. It seems that many here thinks the Chinese have not figured out the most...
  4. What's Wrong with Harimoto's FH?

Ok, at this point I'm just so done with this topic. Sure, Harimoto has the most consistent and best FH ever. All must bow down to master Harimoto-san. He's the greatest tt genius to ever emerge from mankind. (never mind that everyone can see that there's something off about his FH, never mind...
  5. What's Wrong with Harimoto's FH?

Dude, I don't what you are talking about here. I thought we are discussing Harimoto's FH, and that all top Chinese players have good form with their FH strokes. If you really want to argue that not all top Chinese players have good form with their FH stroke. That's fine. Or maybe you are just...
  6. What's Wrong with Harimoto's FH?

The lack of emphasis on form is exactly why no other county could rival China on table tennis. In tt, form is the most important. It's true that many players with good form do not become world champions. However, players with bad form definitely have even less chance of becoming Olympic...
  7. What's Wrong with Harimoto's FH?

Again, this is not about functionality or utility. I'm just talking about the form. If you want to, you could use tennis FH stroke for table tennis. It works, but is that good form for tt? I thought I've very clearly defined the parameters of the discussion, oh well...
  8. Czech Open 2019 (World Tour)

Haha, we can like or dislike any player we want. It's just personal preference. To me, CXT and WMY have very similar play style.
  9. What's Wrong with Harimoto's FH?

Very good information from zeio as always, but kind of missing the point. Just because HT is trying to expand the utility of his FH in more offensive role, doesn't mean his FH stroke isn't flawed. I'll use this analogy. A poorly designed car can still be fully functional, it's just less...
  10. How did this happen

Haha, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to steal your thunder. On a more serious note, it always puzzles me that some people mention how sturdy a rubber is against scraping table's edge when talking about topsheet durability. I hope they realize that rubber topsheets are not designed to be durable...
  11. Zhao Zihao Equipment

Maybe it's a way to distract his opponent with the terrible haircut and gain advantage during match. Judging by how far Zhao got, I'd say more players should give this a try. Maybe also put on an equally terrible looking uniform (like Japan's yellow outfit) for maximum effect.
  12. How did this happen

At least it's a fairly cheap rubber, just get it replaced. There's no need to obsess over why it happened. This could've happened to any rubber. But tacky Chinese rubbers usually have thicker, harder topsheets that are less prone to this type of damage.
  13. What's Wrong with Harimoto's FH?

Sigh... technique has nothing to do with puberty. By your logic, prepubescent kids are just biologically unable to learn the correct FH stroke. If this is true, then why did so many professional players start training at the age of 4 or 5? Please go look at ML or FZD's FH stroke when they were...
  14. 2019 Bulgaria Open (World Tour)

To be fair, the bit about Harimoto is kind of true. He's not been doing too well in 2019. Same for Ito. But they are both young, no reason to think they won't improve.
  15. What's Wrong with Harimoto's FH?

Maybe you are joking, but you shouldn't think of Harimoto as any normal 16-year-old. Think of him as WR# 5 player in the world.
  16. 2019 Bulgaria Open (World Tour)

Oh no! Zhang Qiang, the only female penholder, is out!! Oh well... better luck next time.
  17. What's Wrong with Harimoto's FH?

Harimoto raises his elbow too much on shots where he needs more upward brush. He's still not using his legs to push forward and upward to power the brushing element of the swing. I feel like his leg is only pushing forward, so he needs to rotate shoulder and lift elbow in order to generate the...
  18. The best international web sites to buy tt equipment?

I mostly use tabletennis11 for blades and tensor rubbers. If I'm buying Chinese rubbers, I use princett.com - much better price and more sponge hardness selection. 5-day shipping from Hong Kong to US is pretty fast. I only use Aliexpress when I have to. Shipping takes like 3 weeks.
  19. Has average rally length really decreased?

This is a pretty sound argument. The percentage of successful service returns has increased significantly since switching to the 40+ balls. This change alone will noticeably increase the average number of hits played per point.
  20. All wood blades - Fast 5-ply vs Slow 7-ply?

I totally agree with your experience. 5-ply feels fundamentally different from 7-ply allwood. 5-ply's are generally more flexible and better for looping. 7-ply's are more direct and better for driving and blocking. 5-ply's have a much more pronounced catapult effect when looping hard. I feel...
