What is going on in the match germany vs sweden? Got Boll injured? Sweden got 2 matches for free??
Edit: Read just know that boll has stomach problems and it was 2 vs 3 from the start... why could germany not play with replacement?

Hopefully Boll will recover for singles. Strange he couldnt be replaced.... is the match live on youtube, they are not displaying stream of quarter finals It seems.

Absolutely incredible scenes as Lebesson defeats Ovtcharov 3-1 to secure the victory for France over Germany!

Seems like Timo Boll caught a stomach bug/food poisoning a few days ago and was unable to play this match nor the quarterfinal against Sweden. Since the rules state that you can't substitute a player in the team, Germany had to forfeit Boll's 2 matches and therefore France - and Sweden earlier on for that matter - only had to win one match to advance whereas Germany had to win all three to secure advancement.

A rubbish rule? Perhaps, perhaps not, but they are the same for everybody, so it doesn't matter, IMHO.
What matters though is that Ovtcharov played and lost to a much lower ranked player, something he normally shouldn't have. All credit to Lebesson and the energy and commitment he played the match with. Very well played, IMHO. And congrats to France :)

Dima looked since the first match that something pissed him off very hard . after every point loss, he looked back to Jörg R normaly he never does this. it was pretty strange for me to see him like this. I was pretty happy for Patrick Baum after i saw him playing his first match again after he lost his father 7months ago. France didnt deserve that Final.

France 1:2 victory over Germany... congratulations. Im not wondering anymore why a lot of sports federations did NOT send their players there, if they guessed out that good rules that it is not even allowed to replace an injured player of a team BEFORE the game. I never heard something this stupid. In volleyball or waterpolo or whatever other team competition they are also not just coming to the tournament with the players that are then playing on the field why in table tennis? But indeed Lebesson played well but i think Gauzy was even better but Ovtcharov did not play in his best form

The loosers should always congratulate the winners! Everybody knew the rules, if Germany was the winner against France by one of their players couldn't play probably you would say other thing. France won fairly, despite of Timo's seakness (stomach I believe), but that's sport! We have to learn to win and to loose! Congratulations for France and to Portugal
