I just finished assembling my "new" setup. It's built for fun only, to satisfy my curiosity for Hinoki as the top-layer on an all-wood blade.

It consists of:

  • The Adidas v1.3 (5-ply, Hinoki/Awan/Kiri/Awan/Hinoki), at 92g
  • DHS Gold Arc 8 at 47.5º hardness and 2.0mm ("MED") thickness; uncut ±72g, cut ±48g
  • Edge tape

Total weight is ±188g, which is about 8g heavier than I'm used to. It doesn't feel heavy, it's balanced; I don't think the handle is hollow. As for playing, I expect a wholly OFF combination, slanted towards a spin-oriented game. I'm especially curious about the touch game, its dwell, the spin amount imparted, its direct play characteristics and the power reserves.

I'm considering to part with this setup, by the way. I had planned it as a backup, and was drawn to it out of curiosity for the Hinoki top layer.

That worked out well, in the sense that I can switch to it without a blink from my main setup. However, the head size is slightly different, the Adidas head is slightly less tall and a bit wider. This makes it less suitable for swapping rubbers, and decommissioning rubbers to my backup blade was what I had in mind.

I played with this setup for a couple of hours, and it's as good as new. As long as I have it it's a good backup, but in case anyone's burning to give it a spin just let me know.

Not a EJ after all, like 20 years with the same blade (tried others, but i love the feeling on that one) and the same with the BH rubber, last one i played with was Xiom Vega Europe DF (good rubber, but not for me).
Love that Rasanter Rubber, R42 one, great touch paired with my blade.
