England sensation and Olympic 2012 hopeful Paul Drinkhall moves to Italy in hope of achieving his life long dreams of a medal at the 2012 Olympic games. Geoff Ware interviews Paul at the recent Fusion Masters on his performance and plans for the London Olympics. Paul collected a well deserved cheque for £1000 in wining the Fusion Masters last weekend on the 4th July.

The staged final was between Paul and Kazeem and this was a top class affair full of brilliant rallies and exchanges. However the top seeded Drinkhall was always in the driving seat easing through his turbo charged gears to run out a worthy Champion with a 11-6, 11-7, 11-4 scoreline.

Check out their similar forehand strokes by these amazing photos here www.photoboxgallery.com/aldeman

Drinkhall works hard and wants it but the state of english table tennis is not good. Funding for only the very top like paul and even then not enough to get them to the top of the world. Training for juniors is not great either with a lack of training partners and at not a young enough age.

If England wants a table tennis medal it's going to have to sort it out.

Very true Lloyd... England needs to create hot beds of really young kids aged at 6 onwards with the correct coaching and guidance. Then only we may get close to a medal

If he wants to improve, he should move to germany
The only real high class league in europe (France Pro A isn't bad, too)

In Germany the possibilities to train are really good
Just to mention the DTTZ in Düsseldorf (!)or Ochsenhausen's training group
Right, I think he should have moved to France or Germany.
But, I don't know much about Italy's table tennis..
Düsseldorf and Ochsenhausen are very good teams!

In those photos Drinkhall's backswing is bigger and his wrist is cocked more fully, that will give him a lot more spin. I am actually surprised to see a player of that level about to take a swing without his wrist back and ready. Perhaps he has not finished his backswing. The ball is farther away than in the photo of Drinkhall.
