I have to admit that I was inspired by Matt's blog about the 6 recent greatest win over the chinese.
http://http://www.mhtabletennis.com/2016/01/6-amazing-table-tennis-moments-when.html

What I personally consider the greatest among them is Schalger's world championship title , my personal opinion being WTTC is the hardest of them all , olympic included.

However, I could not find ample material on the internet about this win , Schalger's preparation. or any kind of dissection on how this was made possible etc. other than some info in a Google Book preview about Schlager and Matt's interview.

Google book preview : https://books.google.com/books?id=f...frontcover&source=gbs_atb#v=onepage&q&f=false
Here the focus is more on his academy

Matt's interview : http://http://www.mhtabletennis.com/2013/03/undying-passion-for-world-champion.html
Great interview, but shall I say schlager is not very forthcoming :)

I thought , if fellow forum members are interested may be they could pitch in , I am sure there is a lot of information/opinion that is not known and a lot to be learnt from this epic and rare event in world table tennis.

As they say, lets play ball !! .. if you will :)

Another thing that was interesting that year: Schlager did not face a CNT opponent in the finals. The finals was Schlager vs Joo Se Hyuk.

He did beat Kong and Liqin on his way to the finals though.

His serves were too good for everyone. His serves are still some of the best ever.

Exactly ! I could find a couple of interviews of Schalger but thats it and no more ! Its astounding how less coverage or discussion this momentous event has !

There is a thread on the forum tt-news.de about Werner. But it's in german and it's 67 pages long. But the thread originally started in the year 2000 and Werner himself posted a few times, but then stopped after some wise guys started getting on his nerves. It's quite an interesting read.
