Hello All,

Today was not a good day. After one hour of training I went for a short ball, close to the net. Hit the corner of the table and ripped my FH sheet :( After launching a list of foul words not to be used here, I continued the training, but the trainer was very clear : the damage was too big for judges to let me play in competition. Ill tempered I went for a drink after the training and their was this dude, teaching the world how to play table tennis and what rubbers are the best and blablablabla.
Then the discussion came to a point where rubbers would benefit using a plastic covering sheet. They would last longer, no more dust or dirt on them, the list of advantages was huge.
So why doesn't only 10 out of our the 150 players in our club use them ???
Is it really to cover your sheet with a plastic cover after every match ???
Big discussion. Not much to be found on the web, I did however recall a thread somewhere but don't remember what's in it or where it is ?

So question remains : plastic or not ?

To me yes, since I'm chinese tacky rubber all the way, the dust on the rubber can be easily seen any time when the plastic cover is taken off from the rubber. I do know some people where I'm playing with does not using plastic cover. But most of them just put their paddle into plastic bag before they put it into their paddle bag lol...

This is how I see it. I like to use the sheets. I think, to get the dust off the tacky sheet you can simply clean the rubber. I think, from that standpoint it does not matter too much but, it does make it so that, while you are not using the rubber dust is not going to gather on the topsheet. It also keeps air from contacting some of the surface of the topsheet. Do the plastic sheets protect the rubber? A little. Not a big deal if you did not use them but it does a little. Why do I use them. It makes it so I can put my blade into my racket case and pull it back out, knowing that what is sliding on the inside surface of the racket case is not my topsheet. :) So I put one on the Tenergy and one on the tacky Skyline rubber.

I use the clear plastic cover from old report covers. I just cut them to size.

Hehe, did some handy work and I have cut out two covers from an old report cover. Next on the list ... a new rubber !!
The same one or something new or thicker or ....
Damn, every time the same agony to go through, which rubber to take :)

I would recommend using plastic sheets from Table Tennis Specialists. If you have tacky rubbers use normal plastic. However if your rubbers are not tacky use sticky plastic. Two examples where to get sticky and non-sticky plastic are: Tessport or Bribar.

The plastic sheets are supposed to slow down rubber oxidation by isolating it from air.
I use them on my chinese rubbers after cleaning them and they seem to last longer.
Also when the sheet does not longer stick to the rubber it's usually a good indication that all stickiness is gone and rubber should be replaced.

Is the thinking still Non-sticky sheets for tacky rubbers and sticky sheets for non-tacky rubbers. If so where do hybrids fit :) or does it matter? There grippy rather than tacky - does the grip wear off with using sticky sheets?

I never thought if it like that, I just went for sticky sheets (Nittaku) on all my rubbers because I like the fact they don't fall off!
