Hi,
interesting situation is in team CHINA before Olimpic single games.

If trener designed Ma Long and Zhang Jike, they will plays in semifinal.
MaLong is first nd ZJ fourth in ranking.
China will have gold and bronze medal.

I have right or no ?

nop! it doesnt work that way, two players will qualify for singles. So no matter which chinese qualify (XX ML FZD ZJK) they will be no1 and no2 in olympic seedings, so they can only meet in the final.

The only surprise would be if ovtcharov "steals" the no4 spot from zhang jike as they are close in ranking points (zjk is 4th and dima 5th), but zhang jike won their encounter in kuwait so he won points and dima lost points (and zhang also won 2 more matches in the open, and he also gets the bonus points for winning the tournament)

This scenario/hypothesis also explains why ZJK was so eager to win against ovtcharov, it was surely a matter of confidence and dominance over him but maybe tHE chinese didnt want dima to jump in the 4th place

You guys!!! You have to understand: to get into the Olympic Singles Event, you have to win a spot; how you win your spot is in the Olympic Trial Tournament.

Two players from each country can qualify for the singles event: ONLY TWO. To qualify, those two have to win their spot in a qualification tournament that is coming up very soon.

There is a third player who can qualify for each country. But that third qualifying player is only qualified to play in the Olympic Team Event. That third player will be selected based on World Ranking and I think the World Ranking that will apply will be at the end of May. It could be beginning of May. I might be remembering this incorrectly. But it is one of those two World Rankings.

Liu Gouliang has said publicly that the FOUR players from China who will go to compete for the TWO singles spots are:

1) Ma Long
2) Fan Zhendong
3) Xu Xin
4) Zhang Jike

Whoever, of those FOUR, win the two singles spots, will be seeded ONE and TWO in the Olympic Singles Event.

The players will not be selected. They will not be chosen. They will have to win their spot in tournament if they want to compete in the Olympic Games Men's Singles Event.

Here is a page that lists the rules for qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Games.

These rules are different for how players qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games.

I don't understand why top players have to qualify for olympic games, their ranking isn't enough ?

Ummmm, it is, um, the Olympic Committee, not wanting all the medals to go to one country. So there can only be two players from each country in the singles event. But figure skaters have to qualify too. So do runners. All the athletes have to qualify.

Does anyone remember Nancy Kerrigan and Tanya Harding????

And last time, in 2012, when they just went by World Ranking a lot of people complained that Ma Long got left out because his ranking wasn't good enough at the time world ranking was used. So you can't really have it both ways.

And the fairest way to select seems to be to have them compete for allotted spots.
