CHINA's squad for Rio Olympics 2016 Announced!

China announced their team lineup yesterday for the 2016 Rio Olympics!

Ma Long and Li Xiaoxia were the first players in Team CHINA to qualify for the Rio Olympics with their superb results at the recent Asian Qualifications Event. Yesterday the additional members of the China Olympic team were released! The names included Zhang Jike, Xu Xin, Ding Ning and Liu Shiwen. Youngsters Fan Zhendong and Zhu Yuling also made it into the list as fourth sports as P-Card holders.

The names released did not clearly state which players would play in the singles and team competition. The Chinese National team will released before the deadline on May 30th 2016.

      Man:

      Ma Long
      Zhang Jike
      Xu Xin
      Fan Zhendong (p)

      Woman:

      Li Xiaoxia
      Ding Ning
      Liu Shiwen
      Zhu Yuling (p)

Another player playing singles is to be decided on 30th May. It will be between Zhang Jike and Xu Xin in the singles and Ding Ning and Liu Shiwen in the womens singles. Fan Zhendong and Zhu Yuling cannot play singles as they are the P-Card holders.

Good question. I don't know what it stands for precisely. But basically, it means substitute.

P card is basically a substitute (for injury).
It started in 2008 olympics, that countries are allowed to have a P card player.

Yes, this is very clear. But what does "P" stand for? Which word does it mean?

So basically either Zhang Jike or Xu Xin will play singles. Fan Zhendong has no chance?

Fan Zhendong deserves it more IMO. Anyway, this probably means that ZJK will be playing. XX had a weak match against Mizutani and against Chuang Chih Yuan.

ZJK is not stable too against foreigners. I think he lost more than XX.

IMO FZ is on P becuase of is age and not its quality
Youngsters Fan Zhendong and Zhu Yuling
      .

FZ has plenty of oportunities to win the games in future years, i cant say the same for ZJK.
