Here is a short report from the first SuperLeague event held at Corby Smash Table Tennis Centre. Some high calibre players entered ensuring a great evening of table tennis.

Ryan and Chris were both showed some class by staying after the event had finished to have photos with some of the kids that had stayed to the very end (midnight finish almost) and also play a little bit of table tennis with them and have chat. You could see what it meant to these kids and how it inspired them. Top class from both the winner and runner-up. Well done chaps.

@corbytoffee - thank you and Tony for organizing these tournaments.

I've attended the over 40's rating event last Sunday, and it was a great experience. Very good venue, no problems parking, spacious, with good lighting, and last, but not least, a sizeable lounge area with a bar for snacks and drinks. Fruits were free!

There were 4 groups of 8 or 7 players. The top group included some of the same people who entered in the earlier superleague tournament (imho, almost everyone in that group was at least inside top 100 over 40's in UK). I was in the second group. The group included played rated in 200-400 range, but nevertheless most of the matches were pretty close and hard-fought. Managed to win 5 out of 7 matches, and went home in a very good mood

Will definitely return to the next over 40's event!

Report from the Corby Smash TTC Veteran's rating event:

A terrific performance from Jeremy Banks saw him top Group 1 in the inaugural veteran's ratings event at Corby Smash Table Tennis Centre. Jeremy, from Middlesex won all seven of his matches with only Martin Gunn from Avon and Tony West of Suffolk taking him to five sets. Second place went to Martin Gray of Cambridge with six wins and apart from his defeat against Jeremy, Martin lost just one set all day and took a well deserved second place. Martin Gunn took third place in a count back with Tony West 4th and Steve Silk (Northants) 5th.

Group 2 saw a fine victory for Toby Eckly from Hereford, with just one loss in a tight match and a great game with Vadym Krevs of Hertfordshire in five sets. Alex Aston took second place in the group with five top wins and finishing ahead of Vadym in a countback with Steven Fox (Notts) in 4th place. Jason Onyameh flew in from Ghana to take part! The no.3 veteran in Ghana is a great character and after lots of tight games finished in 6th place with two wins. Hopefully Jason will return soon.

Group 3 saw lots of surprises with the number 7 seed Martin Hall (Northants) winning all his matches. Local Corby player Henry Arthur came through some tough 5 setters to take second place ahead of Nigel Metcalfe (Northants) on countback. Duc Phu Nguyen finished in 4th place and the top seed Ken Lewis(Suffolk) down in 7th.

Group 4 was a mixed group with Carrie Cope (Cambs)and Geraldine Morle (Hants) flying the flag for womens veterans table tennis. Carrie won the group in a countback with Fahed Sacoor (Leicester) and her only defeat coming against Geraldine, who finished in 4th place behind Phil Morris (Cambs)

Many thanks to everyone who played and we hope that the next veterans ratings event will be on the 27th August. If you would like to play in this event or would like any further information about Corby Smash Table Tennis Centre please contact Tony West on [email protected]

Photos from the day are now on the Corby Smash Facebook page. We will be running Superleague, Veteran's rating event, and Junior 1 star events on a regular basis throughout the year with our first junior event being held on Sunday July 24th.
