Are there any examples of players playing at a reasonably high level that alternate between different playing styles depending upon their mood or who they are playing? I started out playing modern Defence with LP's on the backhand, and I'm now trying to learn to play a looping game with inverted on the backhand...but could I just have two bats set up and switch from being a modern defender and an attacker. Is it too difficult to master two different playing styles?

What you are labeling in a way is Modern Defender.
JSH for example can loop on both wings.
If he twiddle to inverted on BH, he can still Loop

But honestly speaking, in the highest level, I don't think it is good to mix styles, as the strategy, footwork etc are all different.
Changing equipment often can also harm top players game - that is why some of them don't change (to different) equipment in years

For you, I think you can just twiddle and get best of both worlds
good luck

It's hard enough to get decently good with ONE style! If you're just dinking around most of the time and don't care about blitzkreiging your rank, then why not swap around! At the hobby/recreational level, the game is about fun... right?
