Sorry to be a bummer, but getting animals to do weird tricks like this usually involves a lot of torture. Although monkey and chimp like creatures allegedly do some strange things without any gruesome beating as motivation.

Some say practice can be torture I guess. Conditioning can be torturous, but that chimp powered through and can play better than all other chimps. He is the world champion of his species. Hell... Whatever he went through to get to that level, I'd go through in an instant for the same!
