What does that explain? When i was practicing with Thomas Keinath i didn't look better than Dan receiving Pär Gerell's serves. I doubt it would have been different with two-toned balls.
IMHO this is mostly for the spectators

Im not surprised XX lost his style has not evolved at all through the years. As for ML its normal to have fluctuations in performance, but getting destroyed in the last two sets, didnt see that coming. I think i like LJK more than FZD cause he has some finesse and more variety in his shots

SugaD is obviously in a grumpy mood today. At this level, it makes the most difference because what they struggle with the most is not what kind of spin is on the ball, but how much spin is on the ball. And this two-toned ball reduces the effectiveness of no-spin and backspin high toss serves, which is what Ma Long usually uses to keep banana flip experts like Liang Jingkun in check. These guys see the ball so well that if you can reduce their ability to be deceived, you are basically playing into the hands of the returner. And Ma Long relies heavily on his serve game compared to the youth who rely more on their return games. Something similar likely happened to Xu Xin - but I guess this is all speculation until we see the video.

And agree to a degree. But these guys played each other more than once, so i doubt they really look at the ball's stamp a lot, or in this case how fast the two-toned balls spin, but rather the ball's flight path.
But then again at this level the smallest changes can take the biggest effect.
And you're right regarding ML's game depending on serve, but also others are facing this situation and deceiption is important for nearly all players at this level.

Looks fancy but of course they will turn it off when game is in play. Seems to affect the bounce and timing a little for some.
