Insane Exhibition between Timo Boll and Jorgen Persson 2016!
In front of the Timo's home crowd in Germany today at the World Cup, Boll took on Swedish Legend Jorgen Persson in an exhibition match before the men's singles final. You can watch the final between Fan Zhendong and Xu Xin here.
To the spectators delight, this turned out to be one of the greatest exhibitions we have ever seen! Even Jan Ove Waldner was involved.... as the umpire!

I have strongly felt for a while now that they should make exhibition table tennis or some form of it an Olympic event. China will probably still win but it will make TT far more popular than the serve and spin error fiestas out there today.

I agree ... The most famous table tennis match in the world is - I guess - the show Secretin Purkart
I show it in France 35 years ago

Yeah, that was pretty good - but maybe not the most outrageous ever...I think CCY-Saive a couple of years ago, several featuring Chen Xinhua, and the Secretin-Purkart show, not to mention the Orlowski-Pansky show, are contenders.
And as for making it an Olympic event, well, it's no more crass than Rhythmic Gymnastics. Actually the ITTF used to have a thing, 'Exhibition Pairs' or somesuch, a few years back during major events, which was a kind of fun competition.
Don't knock it. It gets the attention of far more spectators who start to appreciate the skill levels in the game.

This needs to be done more at events. Maybe Timo will join the Waldner and Persson gang in their exhibitions around the world..

IMHO, something much better already exists, and has the benefit of being a real competitive form of TT:
