1.5 million dollar...yeah, we shouldn't take it seriously :)

there are all signs of show.

1. 4 teams (in any serious competition participants for at least 6-8)
2. 4 "coaches". 3 of them as I understand are not professional coaches, just famous former players
3. real-time video behind the scenes (conversations, team building etc.)

lacking only a judges who are evaluating the performance. as Waldner, Saive and some of the younger generation like ZJK or XX )

btw it's strange there is no representative from Hong Kong, France and Portugal among the players, but 3 from Chinese Taipei

Yeah, it's quite a show, but everyone will give his best to win. It's also an experiment, that's why just 4 teams participate.
You are not right about the coaches. I don't know about Jiang Jianliang, but Roßkopf is german national team coach for a long time now, Persson coached the swedish team members many times. I've seen Michael Maze helping his team mates during matches too.

What is wrong with if the thing is for show? I have always believed that we should have a competitive exhibition aspect to our sport. There are whole competitions in billiards/snooker dedicated to trick shots. Swimmers do synchronized swimming and diving. The dunk competition is one of the most popular parts of the NBA All Star Weekend and it is still often discussed more widely and memorably than the actual game.

I know we love to see good hard fought table tennis, but I am behind this experimentation all the way as I want to see what comes it. People are putting a lot of money into making TT look exciting so I will be happy with them doing whatever they think is reasonable. We will all learn from it, and I will be very disappointed if they fail or people will prefer watching Timo Boll play Kuka :p as a view of what entertain table tennis looks like.
