Blimey, I haven't seen the final yet but the match against Gauzy was intense.

Mea culpa, it was in the second set at 2-2.

In my opinion, it was mostly the umpire's fault in this situation. After the point, Dima took the ball, saw that it was broken, took it to the referee and showed it. The umpire agreed that the ball was broken and gave Dima a new ball. So, it was clear that the point should've been replayed. Shibaev's complaint came before the umpire announced the score "2 all", so his complaint was that Dima didn't show him the ball before replacing it, which was the least of the issues, forgetting that the point should be replayed. That's why I think that it was just a reason to get on Dima's nerves. Of course, Dima's action was disrespectful and he knew it, you could hear his voice was trembling when talking to the umpire.

The women did play too, but somehow that didn't get mentioned here in the wake of Shiba's ruffle. The WF ended somewhat in an anticlimax, with an injured Solja halfway and finally giving up later.

Until then, an interesting, and different, game — with the defender taking the crown, in the end.

Shortly before, an injured Sabine Winter secured third place with an unexpected 4-3 victory over Liu Jia.
For me, the greatest achievement of this tournament.
