I'd love to see a few top European players involved there, just to get an idea about how tough that competition is

That is the question!
But I was talking to my friend who saw Liang Jingkun in the Hungarian open and.. well - he said that he is NOT THAT GOOD as it looks like after he beat Fan Zhendong. He beat him and other CNT players just BECAUSE they KNOW EACH OTHER SO WELL..
That is one thing..
Second thing is - if they would go and play each other (meaning CNT not very known players vs. european top players) - chinese would have the advantage, because european top players are worldwise known and the chinese are not.
So this is really hard question to answer!
I tend to believe that they are NOT THAT GOOD to beat top players like top 20 in the world..
But still they are good enough to be in the top 100 if they would be allowed to play tournaments.

After the top 10 players, Shang Kun was added as the 11th player that "Fight till the End".

In Stage Three, the top 10 + ML and ZJK will compete for the first position to WTTC. Then Shang Kun will join the remaining 11 players in 3 groups to compete for another position. Coaches may then decide the rest.

Stage Three will be held from March 3rd to 10th in Shenzhen.

Chinese Trials for WTTC 2017 has begun in Jan. and 6 players were first picked. They are Yu Ziyang, Zhou Qihao, Xu Chenhao, Liu DIngshuo, Zhou Kai and Wang Chuqin. Many top players did not participate earlier because of the Hungarian Open.

Hi TurboZ

Thank you very much for all the info/updates about the Trials - I really love those tournaments :)

Do you have any additional info about Phase 1 - like who participated or more detailed results?

Liu Dingshuo slowly but surely improves. Yu Ziyang and Wang Chuqin can made big wins, but they aren't that stable.
For Liang Jingkun, I think he is damn good, just have some mental issues. Playing international tournaments is different than playing with teammates, more pressure even with easier matches. And don't forget that he was eliminated by another chinese player (Yan An if I remember correctly).

No, they didnt..
You forgot the important fact of the advantage!
Because in the CNT they study top players, the develop tactics and learn how to beat them.
So before they played WCT or JYS, they knew exactly what to do!
But WCT and JYS didnt know anything.
And that is huge advantage..

Yeap, exactly and chinese youngsters perform at their peak when on china soil. Zhou Yu,wang chuqin, liang jingkun seem really good in internal competitions but on international tour struggle alot more. Also WCT and JYS didnt perform their best, at least in my eyes. AFter olympics its normal to have reduced performance

Exactly. Zhou Yu beat FZD in the trials, but succumbed to Mengel in Swedish Open last year.
That could be explain by lack of international experience.

After all we know Chinese is much better than whole world not because some magic but because they dedicated more time in training, studying table tennis and have much more players than any country.

It's like USA basketball team.

That does make sense, but I'm sure you watched Hungaria Open, so there we had fairly tough European players (Samsonov, Filus...) that ALL lost to first Chinese they encountered. And those weren't the big 4, but they sure are well-known in the pro circuit.
Nobody can deny that knowing your opponent is an advantage, but I think that in this case and at this level it's almost irrelevant. That finals match at HO was just jaw-dropping.
I can't think of any European who could match that speed, strength and focus. Maybe Dima on his good day, like at Grand Finals 2016 against FZD (he lost but he had 2.5 amazing games though).

You miss the point, even though you are making one. Saive told the story of how he was beating Chen Qi when LGL was coaching another match. LGL came at 3-1 and Saive lost 3-4. He gave another story of how lower level player seemed to know exactly how to play him!

That's not the whole story. WCT, as a Hong Kong China Player, have many chances to train with CNT. He should know chinese players well.
