As for sanctioning the coach, I am not sure what the ITTF handbook says about it.
Well, I guess that kind of actions must be sanctioned. Imagine the situation of a player lobbing far from the table, it could be quite convenient for the coach to throw a ball in to stop the point. However, I can't find any explicit reference to this case in the ITTF Handbook...
