The requirements for the head coach include (1) the coach has to be a world champion or OG champion himself (2) the coach has trained at least 1 world champion or OG champion (doubles and team champions included) (3) the coach has attended WTTC or OG as a coach (4) below 50 years old and so on.

For this round of application, Xiao Zhan is not qualified for the head coach because of (1); Ma Lin and Wang Hao are not qualified because of (2)/(3). If the requirements remain the same in 2019 when next round of application starts, Xiao Zhan will not be qualified for the head coach of women's team because he is still not a world champion or OG champion himself and he will be 51 years old in 2019. Honestly, the rules are not friendly to him. But the rules are written like that. You can call it politics if you wish.

It could be , he could have been vying for the head coach's role in the Men's team and now with the elevation of Qin , he thinks he has a better chance in the Women's team to become the head coach ... after all his protege did become a grand slam champion before Ma Long in spite of all the obstacles ...so he might have thought he deserved it more .

If those are the requirements how did Qin Zhijian become the men's head coach , I did not know he was a world champion or an Olympic champion ..

EDIT : Did some research on him, he was the world mixed doubles champion at some point .. so I guess then he is "qualified" ...

Qin Zhijian is 1994 World Cup Team champion (this is also the first time when Liu Guoliang became world champion) and 2001 WTTC XD champion. For the application this year, only Liu Guoliang and Qin Zhijian are qualified for the head coach and Liu did not apply for this position.

Among the current coaches in men's team, Ma Lin and Wang Hao are world champions and OG champions, and Liu Guozheng is world champion (2001 and 2004 WTTC Team Champion) . So they meet the requirement (1). If they want to apply for the head coach in 2019 or later, they need to attend WTTC as coaches this year (very likely) and they need to train a world champion, which may not be difficult if their player(s) attend 2018 WTTC team events.

CNT does count doubles and team champions. Currently only 5 players in men's team are world champions. Only 4 have singles titles. Since 1959 when Rong Guotuan became the first Chinese TT world champion, there are 109 Chinese TT world champions in total with the last one being Fang Bo as 2015 World Cup Team champion. Li Xiaoxia and Ma Long first became world champions in 2006 WTTC team events, while Zhang Jike, Xu Xin, Ding Ning, Liu Shiwen became world champions for the first time in 2009 World Cup team events. Fan Zhendong, Chen Meng and Zhu Yuling became world champions in 2014 WTTC team events.

If those are the requirements how did Qin Zhijian become the men's head coach , I did not know he was a world champion or an Olympic champion ..
