Although Ma Long does not play at Marvelous 12 trial, he went to Shenzhen to root for teammates. MaLong said at the fans meeting on Mar 2, "Hopefully I will see you next time on the court." When asked about his injuries, he said he is recovering and started running and technical training. Half a month ago he was not quite able to run. When a Japanese fan asked him if he can speak any Japanese, Ma Long said "Sky(sugoi)", meaning great.

On Mar 9, Ma Long posted his collection of Marvel's action figures on Sina Weibo and said, "Since Iron Man, I have piled up Marvel's action figures at home. As a 10-year Marvel fan, when can I meet Robert Downey Jr?"
Later Robert Downey Jr replied to him on Sina Weibo, "Let's make it happen!"

Marvel Studios partner with China National Sports Training Center and cheer for Chinese athletes in a themed event "Ten Year Marvelous".
In the video, Ma Long said, "People know that I have been a big fan of Iron Man for quite some time. He creates superhuman strength and holds the fate in his own hands. I am inspired to become stronger, to take more initiative in face of challenges. No matter what happens in the future, as Iron Man said, I have a plan... Attack!"

Ma Long is trying to come back after a long absence due to injury. Over the last many months he signed up for several ITTF Pro Tour events, then had to withdraw as he wasn't ready to play.

Why is CNT having him play both singles and doubles? Makes no sense to me. He should play singles only and hopefully he doesn't have to withdraw before or during the WTTC. It will be shame if he injures himself in a doubles match.

If he is smart, he will promptly lose his first doubles match to save his efforts for Singles (I know he does not think this way.)

Better option would have been to rest Ma Long in doubles and have either XX, LGY, or LJK play all 3 events, singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.

IMO FZD has best chance to win this WTTC (I don't expect ML to be in the best shape) so he needs to be rested as well. LGY and LJK are young and can handle 3 events better. XX isn't as young but he is the world's best doubles player and CNT shouldn't be expecting him to win WTTC singles (no disrespect to XX intended, but in big events against fellow CNT members he hasn't done as well.)

Although Mar 17 is a break day during closed training, #MaLong kept on physical training. He started with basketball shooting and told the cameraman, "Please keep all my field goals and delete any missed shots."

Why not wait until we see him in Qatar and the Asian Cup before prognosticating hyper confidently?

Yes, also, what's with the "if he's smart" point you make? Not to sound like a cheap kung-fu movie philosopher but if you win throughout your career with this kind of mentality, you've won nothing (I don't mean this aggressively, and did see what you added to that statement). Anyhow, it's interesting that they are preparing for the future with the relatively young LJK/LGY pair and pairing Ma Long with WCQ rather than, say, Xu Xin or FZD. Way to make use of his experience, imagine the feeling and the kind of opportunity this is, if you are Wang ChuQin! And, they did spread the workload as seen with the mixed doubles. That is what you call working as a team, and I think the spirit in the CNT is remarkable seeing how this is such a competitive environment.

On Mar 28, Ma Long returned to ITTF World Tour. In the first round of men's doubles of Qatar Open, he and Lin Gaoyuan beat Paul Drinkhall / Samuel Walker by 3-1 (10:12, 12:10, 11:8, 11:8). They will face Lee Sangsu / Jeoung Youngsik next round. In the first round of men's singles, Ma Long gradually picked up form and beat Tristan Flore by 4-2 (6:11, 11:5, 12:10, 9:11, 11:5, 11:7). He will face Timo Boll next round.

ITTF post-match interview

Plus in post-match interview with Zhibo TV, #MaLong said that the first match was not perfect but winning a match without introducing more injuries was victorious. He hoped to get better form facing Timo Boll which he considered a difficult match.

Who is prognosticating hyper confidently? Am I not allowed to express my opinion on who is likely to win the WTTC?

I am questioning why CNT is exposing ML to additional risk of injury by having him play doubles. He played doubles in Qatar as well. So far he has not looked like his normal form in Qatar despite beating Timo Boll 4-0 today. That is to be expected after such a long lay off from international competition.

On Mar 30, Ma Long beat Jun Mizutani by 4-0 (11:2, 11:6, 11:6, 15:13) in the quarterfinal of 2019 Qatar Open.

In the interview after quarterfinal with Zhibo TV, Ma Long mentioned that the lighting was dim and sometimes he found it difficult to observe the ball. In terms of his injuries, he said they were under control and the recovery was better than expected.

Later the day, Ma Long beat Xu Xin by 4-2 (12:14, 11:6, 8:11, 12:10, 11:7, 11:6) in the semifinal. In the post-match interview, he said the results of his comeback at Qatar Open were beyond his expectations. He will be prepared for the final tomorrow.

On Mar 31, Ma Long will face his men's doubles partner Lin Gaoyuan in the men's singles final of 2019 Qatar Open, which will be their first encounter on the international stage.
Fun fact: in this tournament, Ma Long meets 4 out of 5 left-handed players in the world ranking top 10. He also met 2 out of 4 top-tier major rivals of Team China. Really a test for his recovery and closed training!

Really no point in responding at length. Your view is understood and acknowledged.

After winning 2019 Qatar Open men's singles champion beating Lin Gaoyuan by 4-2 (9:11, 8:11, 11:5, 11:5, 11:9, 11:9), Ma Long updated his Sina Weibo, "Finally it is not a post about my injury withdrawal. I am grateful for all the people who have helped and encouraged me during the past few months. I also want to thank all the fans for their blessings. I feel even more happier to come back to the court than winning the trophy. Keep going!"
In the post-match interview, Ma Long said he was quite happy to win in Doha for the fourth time after a long downtime and found his form. "I have been to Doha for many times. My debut on ITTF World Tour was 2005 Qatar Open. This is the happiest World Tour title victory of my career as I came back from injuries."
In review of the final, he said, "In the first two sets, I led 7:5 but did not seize the opportunities to win. Trailing behind, I kept patient and slowed down the pace hoping to catch up a set or two. It is not easy to play with Lin Gaoyuan in recent years. He became a little hasty and wanted to give me more pressure leading 2-0; in contrast, I was relaxed and played better and better."
In review of the whole tournament, he thought he gradually found the form and confidence. "At the beginning, I was not quite certain about my condition and adaptation to the stadium, balls, and competition. I did not play well at first, especially men's doubles. Beating Timo Boll boosted my confidence."
When asked about the meaning of the celebration gesture, Ma Long kept it secret, "Nothing special. Don't need to explain everything to all."
<iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FMaLongFamily%2Fvideos%2F363674260906340%2F&show_text=0&width=560" width="560" height="315" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true" allowFullScreen="true"></iframe>
Strong performance in Doha but injuries are still concerning. Ma Long told Zhibo TV that he felt recovered to 80%. This coming weekend he will play Asian Cup in Japan. Please take good care first and keep going!
