On Dec 23, Ma Long scored twice but Team Tianjin Quanjian still lost to Team Bazhou by 2-3 in Jiaxing.
In the first set, Ma Long beat Wang Chuqin by 3-0 (11:8, 11:7, 11:8) with ease. In the second set, Liu Dingshuo lost to Liang Jingkun by 2-3 (9:11, 10-:12, 11:5, 11:6, 4:7). In the third set of doubles, Cheng Jingqi / Fang Yinchi lost to Wang Chuqin / Yu Heyi by 0-2 (9:11, 8:11). In the fourth set, Ma Long beat Liang Jingkun by 3-2 (11:8, 11:4, 8:11, 7:11, 4:7) after an intense fight. In the deciding set, Ma Te failed to stop Yu Heyi and lost by 1-2 (2:11, 11:8, 4:7).
Coach Ma Wenge commented, "Today Ma Long played at a best form in recent days. It's a pity that we lost. Liu Dingshuo led but did not win. Ma Te was slow to respond at the beginning of the fifth set and was conservative when he led in the deciding game; by contrast, his young opponent fought hard and played well."
In post-match interview, Ma Long said, "I devote myself to each match and forget about being a Grand Slam winner. Liang Jingkun played well today. He is a promising young player of China National Team and can play at very high level, which motivates me to play competitively. In the deciding game, I fought one point after another. Both of us played well and fought for each team. It's a great match." Each round, Ma Long has the pressure to score twice for the team. "The team has faith in me to be the core player and I have to take responsibility. Whether scoring twice or not depends on the performance on the court; the core player has to be mentally prepared. No player wants to lose. I had not thought about playing once or twice; I was concentrated in my match to win for the team."
After 6 rounds, Team Tianjin Quanjian has 3 wins and 3 losses and it is not an easy task to win the champion. Ma Long said, "We aim for the champion. So far we have met some difficulties. But the league has not finished. We will keep working hard and will not give up easily. Even if we could not win the champion, we will work hard for a good result. It will never happen that we give up if we cannot be the champion."
He added. "When I play table tennis on the court, I do not have any irrelevant identity. On the court, I regard myself as a young player, and do my best for each point."
Team Tianjin Quanjian will face Team Anhui at home on Dec 26 in Round 7 of Super League.
