Yes, so far the "Japanese vs foreign players" score in the main draws is remarkable:

Men's singles: 11:0
Women's singles: 16:0 (only Japanese players remaining in the draw!!!)
Men's doubles: 2:0
Women's doubles: 2:0

JAPAN is the best nation after CHINA. the gap is huge between those 2, but the gap is huge after JAPAN as well

Would there still such a gap with ML, FZD and XX out of the equation and ZJK struggling to recover?

I have often wondered this question myself, if there were no Ma Long, Fan Zhendong and Xu Xin would China dominate everything. I think the answer is yes they will. Players on the tier 2 squad in the China National Team will get more opportunities to play internationally and gain the experience they need to compete on this level. Players like Fang Bo and others would compete more often and improve. You can see unknown players in the China Super League take out the top guys relatively often :)

I don't know. I must admit even strong foreign players like Boll or Ovtcharov loose to internationally unknown players in CTTSL a lot, but in a tournament on foreign soil it might be a whole different story and i'm not sure if everyone knows how to handle the pressure. There have been quite some surprises in the past. Guys like Yan An come to my mind.

I don't quite agree. Tier 1 CNT players (4-5, the lineup for OG and WTTC team events) do not steal away the opportunities of Tier 2 players. They just perform better in trials, natioanl tournaments and CTTSL. If you look at the medalists of China National Games and National Championships, almost all are Tier 1 players. CTTSL MVPs are all Tier 1 players.
An extreme example is FZD. Much younger than FB and YA, he surpassed them very quickly.

That's gonna be interesting. Jin Ueda is very good, but Kenta is good too. I would say 50-50%.
In the Aruna vs Asuka match I would bet on the japanese, but who knows?
Ovcharov probably will win this tournament, but I think Oikawa has the second best chance against him after Jin. I still don't think there will be an upset.
My prediction is that we will see a final between Kenta and Ovcharov, where Ovcharov wins 4-2.
