Please give some credit to European players, their mental toughness, experience and technical skills. Gardos and Gacina are fantastic players.

Yes due respect to the Euro players. Gardos did a fantastic job with his serve and BH.

The expedite system really is cancer...it totally messed up the incredibly tense match between Ni Xialian and Honoka Hashimoto, the chopper. After the expedite system was implemented, 15 consecutive points went against service! What a disaster.

Btw, Ni Xialian won 18-16 in the 7th. Great, great patience in her performance.

Just out of curiosity, the match Steger vs Oshima had a female counter (not the umpire) wearing a hijab who did not shake the hand with either of them after the match. It looks like they knew this before even though Steger approaches her but then realizes he should not give her the hand. Does this have to do with islam? I do not want to start a debate, I am just curious :)

You know what, the players who have been knocked out are flying back to China! Usually all the players travel back together, but this time CNT doesn't want them to waste any more money/time. lol

Considering the performance of these players at China National Games, it is not surprising at all that some were out so early.
LJK did very poorly at China National Games. As the core player of Hebei, he lost 5 (Ren Hao, Xia Yizheng, XX, Shang Kun, Wang Zhen) out of 6 matches in group stage of team event and lost to Liu Jikang in the first round of singles.
Zhou Yu played OK in team events. He beat Hao Shuai, Li Zhuoyang, ZJK and Zhou Qihao and lost to ML, FB, Shang Kun and XX. He lost to Ma Te in the first round of singles.
Wang Chuqin beat He Xiang and Hao Shuai and lost to FZD and LGY in team event. He had a lucky draw in singles to beat Peng Feilong, Cheng Jingqi, Zhou Kai to reach SF. He lost to ML and as XX withdrew, he won the bronze medal. While don't look down previous bronze medalists like WLQ, WH, ML, XX, etc.
As for other CNT players who were out of Austria Open, in the first round of singles at National Games, Xue Fei lost to Hao Shuai, Xu Yingbin lost to Zhou Kai. Song Zhuoheng and Niu Guankai were not qualified for singles. Niu played once in team event and beat Shanghai's Peng Feilong.

Now only YA, FB and LGY proceed in Austria Open. YA did poorly at National Games too. He beat Jie Jianwei (provincial player) and lost to Xu Chenhao, Ma Te and Zhang Chao in team event. For singles he lost to Xia Yizheng (provincial player) in the second round. An article on Table Tennis World Magazine said he had back injury during the preparation for the National Games. It may explain a little bit.
FB beat Xu Yingbin, Yu Ziyang, Yin Jiaxu, Xiang Peng, and Zhou Yu, and lost to LGY and FZD in team event. He lost to Hao Shuai in the second round of singles. He had wrist injury and got injections during the preparation for the National Games. So he is not in the best form.
LGY was not qualified for singles at National Games. In team event, he beat FB, ZJK, Yin Jiaxu, Yu Ziyang, Wang Chuqin, ML and Zhou Yu, and lost to Sichuan's Xu Ruifeng, Zhu Linfeng and FZD in team event. He did well in group stage and QF but was also responsible for the loss in SF. He beat FZD in Asian Cup, which may give him more confidence.

When the line-up for Austria Open was released, the media thought this is great opportunity for the young players and the top players should not be counted on :p Now we know the results.

I probably won't be making a lot of friends with chinese polititians by writing this, but i still feel the need to write it anyway:

Looks as if the GAS have also punished themselves and not only our three amigos (ML, XX, FZD)

Ng Pak Nam seems to be causing serious problems in the draw. Teenager to look out for I guess. This is a golden opportunity for LGY (after taking out Freitas) to cement his place in CNT by winning the open. He can claim the #4 in main CNT lineup left by ZJK.

It's him and Fang Bo. Fang hasn't won anything. So they are level.

Well, media is media. In China National Games, when LGY beat ZJK and ML, and FZD beat ML, ZJK and XX in team event, the media said the old trio was done. While XX won team gold at last.
When ML beat FZD in WTTC, he was asked to comfort FZD and said "The future is FZD's." The media thought the future should come at National Games but ML beat FZD again. Then media asked FZD to wait longer for the future.
After LGY beat FZD in Asian Cup, media started to doubt FZD or question if he was too tired after the tight schedule of National Games. When WCQ won bronze, he is the rising star and the future of CNT; when he lost, he is nobody.

There are two more ITTF tours left this year before the Grand Finals. Will CNT send top players to play in order to qualify for the Grand Finals? Will CNT send more than 6 players as this time? Are we going to see a no CNT Grand Finals again? We will see soon.
