Difficult to see someone else than MA Long or LIN Gaoyuan win... but its always more open than Olympics or World Championships. Because its not so important, MA Long is perhaps not as well prepared physically and mentally this time. However the young LIN must be very hungry for victory but he might face too much pressure. Its gonna be tough for him.

BUT, I'm voting for Timo BOLL !!! too bad SAMSONOV could not make it this time

World cup term is misleading in my opinion. ITTF world tour events are much tougher to win as far as lineup is concerned. They should rename this to inter-continental cup or something. "World" should be used only for world champs.

You could say the same for the Olympics so such arguments are really pointless. World Cups are on an average basis tougher to win that ITTF tournaments. Let's not let the whole national team dominance issue warp this. We have Grand tour finals and WTTC champs for that.

Depends on whether there is a rule in the draw that places them on opposite sides if they both win their groups. There often is in ITTF events that limit countries to two participants.

World Cup has new playing system now. Top 8 seeds do not play group and there is NO separation by association. ML is #1 seed and LGY #6. It is possible that they meet before final.

I saw another seed, LGY is going to play the qualification group..
Or am I mistaken?

If so, he can even hit ML in round 1, if he ends up 2nd in the group..

EDIT:
Aha.. I found the mistake..
I was referring to the first post of this topic:

Men's Singles Seeds

01) Ma Long
02) Dimitrij Ovtcharov
03) Jun Mizutani
04) Timo Boll
05) Koki Niwa
06) Lee Sangsu
07) Chuang Chih Yuan
08) Simon Gauzy
09) Marcos Freitas
10) Kou Lei
11) Quadri Aruna
12) Lin Gaoyuan
13) Alexander Shibaev
14) Omar Assar
15) Jeong Sangeun
16) Chen Chien-An
17) Cedric Nuytinck
18) Gustavo Tsuboi
19) Kanak Jha
20) David Powell

But according to the official seeding list:
https://d3mjm6zw6cr45s.cloudfront.net/2017/10/2017_MWC_SEEDING_list_FINAL.pdf

it is different..
1. Ma Long
2. Ovtcharov Dimitrij
3. Boll Timo
4. Mizutani Jun
5. Niwa Koki
6. Lin Gaoyuan
7. Gauzy Simon
8. Chuang Chih-Yuan..

So those are seeded, rest is in groups..
So Lin can mee t ML in quarters, not before that..

After watching Dima's recent matches in T2 APAC and ECL, I would give an outside chance for Dima to lift the trophy, provided he does not choke mentally.

The players Dima needs to beat are the ones he didn't/doesn't play at the T2 APAC and ECL. This has been largely the case at many tournaments for years now, only obscured by a few choke jobs at Olympics and WTTCs.

Ok, my tips:
A: 1.Lee Sangsu 2.Quadri
B: 1.Freitas 2.Kou Lei
C: 1.Shibaev 2.Assar
D: 1.CCA 2. Jeong Sangeun
But these are somewhat the expected results. Omar Assar played very well recently, he can make an upset. I root for Aruna, but seems a bad matchup against LSS. Jeong Sangeun has good capabilities and CCA is a mystery for me: I would say he is one of the most controlled attacking player among the pros, tries to play consistently, but his results are very unpredictable. But I think he stands high pressure better than Jeong Sangeun.
Do you expect any upsets?

Kanak Jha can upset Quadri. Kanak is technically sound but lacks power. If he can exploit Quadri's weaknesses we can have a good match.
