Sheet... I remember ML lost 0-4 to XX last year. Call it an embarrassment all you like! But in the end in BIG international tournaments it was all ML again.

As Liu Guozheng will coach CNT in 2018 Team World Cup, there are many speculations that Qin Zhijian and Ma Lin are kicked out of CNT as well. It is said that before the boycott, GAS officials met with QZJ and told him that he would be the head of coaching team. But QZJ still boycotted. QZJ may go to Beijing provincial team and M Lin may go to Guangdong. ML may be appointed a new coach in CNT.

We should know whether these are true or just rumors soon. IMO, QZJ and M Lin's career in CNT is done as they cannot coach any international tournaments. QZJ threw away a promising future to support LGL; sad but true, on LGL's birthday and other occasions, QZJ is one of the very few TT people who keeps supporting LGL in public.

BTW, the head of CNT coaching team is said to be decided between WH and Liu Guozheng as Wu Jingping is too old. More coaches may join the team from nowhere.

So maybe if we had an insider, we would know.
All we have left are rummours.

But imagine - how would you feel? Whole life you gave for chinese table tennis and then.. they kick you out..

Following vicious politics in CNT is more entertaining than watching "House of Cards".

Huh? I don't think this happened last year....I'm not sure if ML lost to XX at all last year, and the last time I can remember him losing to XX 4-0 was at the Qatar Open 7 years ago (2011).

According to the introduction, the assistant umpire is local.

You're right. I just checked ITTF database of match results since 2008 and it showed 5 matches that ML did not win a game. http://results.ittf.link/index.php?o...=36&Itemid=158
2016 China Open ML 0-4 FZD
2012 Asian OG Qualification ML 0-3 Koki Niwa
2012 World Cup group ML 0-4 CCY
2011 Qatar Open ML 0-4 XX
2008 Japan Open ML 0-4 WH
I guess he might refer to 2016 China Open when FZD beat ML for the first time in an international event?

The most recent encounters of ML and XX (all events included):
2017 Japan Open ML 4-2 XX
      2017 WTTC ML 4-0 XX
      2017 Marvellous 12 Trial ML 2-1 XX
      2016 CTTSL R15 ML 2-3 XX
      2016 CTTSL R6 ML 3-0 XX
2016 Korea Open ML 3-4 XX
2016 Japan Open ML 2-4 XX
2016 Kuwait Open ML 4-1 XX
2016 WTTTC trial ML 4-5 XX

But there was no ML 0-3 XX in 2016, either lol
I don't think not winning a game is an embarrassment. But if the scores are all 1:11, 2:11, maybe.

Help me here rain. What/when was the game that XX beat ML with a beautiful forehand flip to seal the match. And also there was an immediate game later XX also beat ML (possibly Japan?)

I find it heartbreaking and depressing. A great loss, personally for the three coaches and the three players, and for the sport. There’s only hurt here, no entertainment.

Yes, bloody civil wars, interesting history from a few centuries distance. War of the roses is somewhat entertaining when told as a whirling tale of firy dragons, fierce maidens and witty dwarfs, maybe. But as these things happen it’s no laughing matter to those taking part. Even the American Civil War is still an open wound. You can experience the same in Spain, very close to home for me.

Anyway, I get what you’re saying, but hey, these are real people getting crushed cruelly, not fictional characters in contrived Hollywood-plots.

Likely to be 2016 Korea Open final after ML saved 4 matchpoints in the 7th game, XX flipped returning serve and won 11-9. Japan Open was before that, though.

Some people go for money and some people go for justice. I think they don't regret what they did and they don't care about what they would lose. The three players cannot be punished too harsh; or who will secure China more gold medals? It is natural that QZJ, at that time the head coach of men's team and was offered the position as head of coach team after the removal of head coaches upon GAS reformation, would take responsibilities. Why did he not accept the offer? Besides the brotherhood, he might see something detrimental to CNT in GAS's reformation and new policies. The mode of coach team without head coach has been proven ineffective in CNT in early 2000s as well as in other sports in China. We will see more CTTA new policies in action like U21 player has at least one spot in WTTTC and Team WC lineup, failing in qualification or losing to a non CNT player in the first round of tour events leads to a ban and only time tells if the reformation does good.

Indeed. It will be very disheartening to see Ma Lin's career taking a downswing before even taking off.

Ma Lin updated his Sina Weibo, posted a photo of him hugging ML after ML won 2017 China National Games and a fan drawing of his profile photo that was taken after he won 2008 OG. He wrote, "A special photo of us. Don't forget the initial goal. The strong people rely on themselves." People think he meant that he is leaving CNT and no longer the coach of ML.
