Coconut bat- how do you hold it?

I was browsing ebay and spotted this strange bat. It looks like you hold it with a clenched fist and it would give a longer reach and presumably a faster smash.

Has anyone used this type of bat and does it work?

I've always been interested in alternate handle/blade shapes that would allow for different grips, but haven't found anything worthwhile (yet). They say this about why they designed this one:

“The actual idea stems from the traditional club style handle grip on a ping pong paddle not being all that comfortable,” Evans said. “We wanted to take the hands completely off the playing surface and the best way to achieve that was by way of a precision-style handle grip.”

Perhaps we need to ask Xu Xin how problematic fingers on the playing surface are...
