When using a rubber i saw a long time ago wang hao use to cut his rubber so he could grip it so his fingers wouldn't slip is that still allowed?

Handbook for 2018
https://www.ittf.com/handbook/

Point 2.4.4

"The covering material shall extend up to but not beyond the limits of theblade, except that the part nearest the handle and gripped by the fingers maybe left uncovered or covered with any material."

Seem to be still in power.
Best.

If you mean this:

Then the most relevant rule says:
2.4.7 The racket covering shall be used without any physical, chemical or other
treatment.
2.4.7.1 Slight deviations from continuity of surface or uniformity of colour due to accidental damage or wear may be allowed provided that they do not significantly change the characteristics of the surface.

all the pros with cpen and are using RPB technique have that look in their backhand rubber so it is allowed for cpens only. if you use that on a shakehand racket and hit the ball with that surface it will not be allowed.

In grey areas of TT regulations such as this case, referees will apply a commonsense judgement depending on the circumstances.
