Hitting the ceiling

Does anyone else play with a casual rule, where a wild shot that bounces off the ceiling, but still comes down over the net on to the opponent's side of the table, counts as good return? (What is the official rule?)

It happens rarely, but it's so funny when it does. Today I hit a good spinny shot, and my friend missed and the ball bounces off the edge of his bat. Unfortunately it went straight up, bounced off the roof, and came back down onto the table! I'd already relaxed, thinking I'd won the point, and had to lunge at the last minute, and ended up hitting it off the end of the table and losing the point!

Sometimes, if playing in a place where the ceiling is really low and became an obvious obstacle for a shot that would have been likely to go in (especially lobs), I'd consider offering to replay that point.

And yes, in casual play, just go for it - side hooks against the walls, back onto the table and stuff. At the end of things it really is a game, for most of us anyway.
