The question is how well Harimoto can deal with ZJK's screaming fans.

I'm sure Harimoto can out-scream the combined voices of all of ZJK's fans.
But seriously though, Harimoto just needs to play well, that's the best way to silence ZJK's fans.

Personally, I'm more intrigued by the match up of Bojan Tokic and Niwa Koki. Two creative players should have an interesting match.

the concentration of skill in this China Open is above everything you'd usually see at a Major. Almost every big name is here, apart from Dima.

I'm sure it would be great honor (not to mention bragging rights) for a westerner to take the title on Chinese soil. Of course, China would send out top players to defend the title.

Smart of Dima to pull out. He would've been taken out in the 1st round.

What happened to Fang Bo. In 2015 he had a godly forehand and footwork, but now seems very timid. Is it because of a more backhand dominated game, and less spin for killer shots after the Plastic Ball?

He has lost his consistency and everybody takes advantage of his weak BH. Plus ball effect. So, thats where he is right now.

Looks like Zhang Jike is 100% from a physical standpoint and it pretty much shows. He is putting everything down to experience and accepting that spin doesn't do what it used to do to the opponent.

I really believe Harimoto needs good fortune tomorrow. We have to be patient but I don't see anything really wrong with this recovered Zhang Jike other than the fact that he has to get used to the fact that winners are not as easy to get with pure spin as before. And since he had some of the best movement in the sport before getting injured I don't know what what means for opponents other than that they can test his stamina more.

Yes, this is the question thats been bugging me .. how does the match up work ... FZD has gone on record praising Harimoto's backhand , Harimoto is known to blow people out with his speed and off the bounce technique. Zhang Jike prefers to let the ball fall , and put his own spin on it .
From what we are seeing in this comeback mode of Zhang Jike is that he is trying to take the ball earlier than before, he is acutely aware of the fact that there is less spin , he mentioned it twice in his interviews.

So I would say that Zhang Jike is the underdog here , but it will be a very exciting match to witness , hopefully Zhang Jike can figure out a way ...

So
Sandbagging ZJK fans. Harimoto is not better than Lin Gaoyuan. Zhang Jike could beat Lin Gaoyuan injured, spin or no spin.

I cannot consider Harimoto the favorite.

Not sandbagging , I know ZJK was impressive against Aruna Quadri ... but you have to agree it was pitting strength vs weakness , ZJK's BH vs Quadri's BH ... with Harimoto it will be different ... thats why I was focusing on matchup

What does he mean by competition is getting less? That there are less players left in the competition with every round?

That was improper translation. What ZJK actually said was that his opportunity to compete is less and less with each passing day, so he will treasure each match and each point.

Rather than being pitted against ML, FZD or TB, ZJK has a much more realistic chance of making it against Tomo. Plus CNT had enough time to work on Tomo's weaknesses by now. We have to wait one more day however. And ZJK has some mixed doubles matches to sharpen up his match fitness.

Loving the fact so many top players are competing in a PT open. I don't care if the world ranking doesn't truly reflect the players' strength if this is what we're going to see in every premier open.

Also great to see China sending more players to PT. Good for the game.

Li Yun Ju is also an exceptional talent, there was no way FB could give him credit. Danny Seemiller argued that Ma Long has the worst first round matchup and I can't disagree with him based on the prelims.

Chances to compete. I clarified in the title shortly after publishing the video but I was too brain-dead by the time to add that to the sub. Now fixed. Still, in the original dialog, he didn't utter the word "chances", just competition. I thought it was obvious given the subsequent explanation he gave.
