Hi all,

With the poly ball, 5 plywood blades, even that not slow and too flexy, have not enough power in the poly ball era? When I'm saying this, I'm referring to blades like AVX P500, BT555, YEO for example. It's a 7 plywood era? (for people that use allwood ofc)

Thanks in advance.
Best Regards,
Eduardo Bagarrão

Five-ply blades are good enough. Technique and rubbers are very important. With good technique and decent rubbers, five-ply blades can do wonders. I have a Yasaka Sweden Extra and that works well with rubbers like Gold Arc 8, Rakza 7.

Yeah, In cell ball times I changed from Timo Boll ALC to a Korbel and hated it, but you were right, my technique on that time was a crap and I could generate enough power :p Now I can generate more power with slower blades like that, but never returned again to Korbel

I have a 92gr Intensity and it is a gun. I will not need a faster blade ever in my life.

That blade is interesting, but I think outseason I'll try a Clipper Wood, more cheap and it's to forcing me to play more close to the table(Great part of the points I loose it's because lack of footwork on a forehand oriented style and I always end lobbing)

I changed my Aralyte/carbon blade to 5-ply all wood and am happy with it.

I'll changed one time and didn't liked it(TBALC to Korbel), but I had a hit with a like 20 years old stiga offensive classic, and that blade had something special!

Self made - nice! Is it off?

I must say Primo JP is a bit slow for me, even with mx-s. Just bought Gewo pro zoom off-, not too fast either but a bit harder so + z1 (fh) and 05. Just assembled, will try tomorrow.

... don't cry for me Argentina ...

My opinion runs counter the the trend of this thread. I think a lot of players who were fine with all-wood before would benefit now with some sort of composite blade such as a Viscaria or TB-ALC or the like.

Maybe you're right, but I feel I could play more easily with faster blades with cell ball. Maybe because of my technique, who knows, but I think the poly ball, don't know if it's the only the less spin, but I think that's enough for me to have less control, with faster blades and I have the need to feel more the ball! But well it's just my theory, and maybe would have stayed better with allwood in the cell ball era eheh :p

I may want to borrow a Viscaria to try. I know my forehand far away from table doesn't have enough power so a Viscaria paddle may help. Not sure about defense with LP on the back hand, though.

All the pro players think different. Or they changed to a carbon blade, or they stayed with the same blade. I can't remember a single case of pro player going to a slower blade after the Polly ball.

A very good player in my club changed from Zhang jike blue dragon (alc) to sk7 not because the poly ball. He was looking for more control.

Yes, that might not be easy with a Viscaria. Only one way to know though.

Maybe too the rubber is the issue.
