Against chinese players he is already the biggest threat outside of China I think. Some higher ranked players like Wong Chun Ting or Niwa don't have the speed or playing style to beat the better chinese players. However he hasn't proved he can play on this level constantly and outside of Japan. If he is able to repeat this performance he should be higher of course.
Indeed, new rankings are presented about once a month, generally start of the month, for those that didn't know.
Rankings release schedule from the rankings page below, so let's wait until July 1.
But beware, rankings are calculated taking into account the best 8 results for the past 12month's (well world cup results can hang on even longer). So a single good performance doesn't swing the numbers around a whole lot usually.
