I was totally surprised to see the CNT coach call a time out when ML was leading 2:0 and 12:11 in game 3 which turns out he lost the game 12:14 and mark the turning point of the match.

It looked to me ML called it. The service faults had a part as well.

ML gets grounded for crashing out at 1st round(Rd 32) as a seed. Well, everyone has a 1st.

ML didn't get the memo from Liu Guoliang about attacking Pitchford's FH ^^ Pitchford was covering his middle really well for how tall he is.

ML fh topspin from BH side was always too late. I do not remember when lasy time Ma long was so slow.
Since his serves were called, he missed everything, pivot fh, bh block or loop. As he started to hit less power with his fh, LP played bh down the line every time and won the points.

I still don't understand why his serves both pendulum and bh, were fault without warning.

Sad day for China.

Sure, what a SAD DAY for China. The world #gazillion ranked player (from China!) beats Mima Ito: another one we've never heard of much before (from China!) beats Hina Hayata etc etc. I've been following international TT for well over 40 years - this happens continually.

I feel SO sorry for China, they have SO many sad days in TT.

Look carefully the first two sets. He was also slow and missed a lot of FH shots. Still the match was very close and ML was little lucky in first two sets.
And of course that should be warning first especially on that moment.

Always amazes me how much of the world roots for China and is disappointed when any of them lose. They win virtually every event, and often times are all 3 podium finishers in most every event. It is refreshing to see others starting to compete with them. Japan has had a number of strong results lately, and now Pitchford with this result. I think more diversity is better. China has such a wealth of talent (as evidenced by the results today from two newer Chinese women beating top Japanese players), that i'm sure they are not overly concerned. Just means Xu Xin is an overwhelming favorite to win now....

Last year did Ma Long lost to Jeong Sang Eun at almost the exact same time and there he his service was also deemed illegal. Just interesting trivia

Did you see the match ma long? I think IT IS ridiculous, how could be faulty server on backhand? On forehand servis everythyting looked correct for me, with out help of referee pítch would not win, i heard voice of old man referee, many He has problem with his eyes? Everyone would be affected.
