An inner carbon blade with soft outer plies, with a personalized head and handle shape. The handle is made up from Ebony and Mahogany wood, with a design resembling a traditional Japanese Knife, invoking the owner's roots.

Composition: Ayous / Spruce / Carbon / Ayous / Carbon / Spruce / Ayous
Weight: 92.2g
Thickness: 6.05mm
Freq.: 1356Hz
Balance: 3.4cm (Med)

Now that’s an exciting design. I’m guessing it has a low balance, with a relatively heavy handle?

On the contrary, the owner specifically asked for slightly head heavy blade. So I tried to incorporate looks and function by using the very heavy Ebony wood on top. That still wasn't enough so I had to do some weight relief on the Mahogany part.

This blade suffers from an identity crisis. One side Amultart, the other ZJK SZLC, with an handle inspired in the Revoldia and the old TB Forte. Full credit to the owner for the design, I'm just glad I could accomplish his idea 🙂

Composition: Hinoki / ZLC / Kiri / Ayous / SZLC / Koto
Weight: 89g
Thickness: 6.2mm

With this blade, the owner wanted a more tamed version of a TB ALC. The lighter color scheme of the handle also reflects that.

Composition: Koto / ALC / Ayous / Kiri / Ayous / ALC / Koto
Weight: 87.8g
Thickness: 5.75mm
Freq.: 1360Hz
Balance: 2.7cm (Low)

One of my latest challenges, the "Dotec" all wood handle. It took a couple of tries, but eventually I found a way of doing this consistently.

Blade 1 - Limba / Limba / Ayous / Limba / Limba
90.9g - 5.90mm - 1205Hz - Balance: 2.9cm (Low)

Blade 2 - Hinoki / Padauk / Kiri / Padauk / Hinoki
86.9g - 6.10mm - 1080Hz - Balance: 1.7cm (Very Low)

Beautiful handle, how do the double hinoki plies play? do they amplify the control and feel while still keeping the speed?

In this case we were more concern with the feeling. The owner was playing with a 7 ply Hinoki blade, he wanted something equally softer but more linear, so we replaced the 3 middle layers with Ayous.

Hi Sergio,

Both blades are excellent!!!!

I’ve glued H8-80 to BH & FH of the Hinoki blade and Tau 2 to both sides of the Limba blade.
I’ve used the Hinoki version 3 times now and played well with it from word ‘go’.
The feel and speed is just how I like a set up to play.

The ‘Dotec’ style wings really add a comfy feel, the other thing I’ve noticed is that it seems to help keep my grip relaxed and ‘neutral’

Because I’ve been enjoying the Hinoki blade I haven’t really played much with the other one, but it plays just the same as the all wood Primorac with Tau 2 on it just feels much better in the hand!!

Very happy indeed!! 😁
Excellent workmanship and quality 😎

You took a risk on the Hinoki blade, as it was something suggested by me, so it makes me extra happy that you like it. A while back I built a replica of a Taico 100, an unknown blade for me. The composition was Hinoki/Mahogany/Kiri, with 7.0mm, somewhere in the Off range, but what surprised me was the very good feeling it had. Your blade was a scaled down version of that:

Just put this one on the shop. It was my first attempt at manual engraving, not the most artistic rendition, however the composition is very attractive!

Another pair of fake twins. This time, besides the obvious difference in the handles, there is also a slight twist in the composition as one of the blades has a Limba middle ply and the other one Ayous. It may not seem like much, but it does make an impact in the performance, despite having the same frequency. It's as I always say, frequency doesn't tell the whole story. Also, it proves something I wrote in one of my latest posts (https://www.sdcttblades.com/nerdy-stuff/the-importance-of-the-middle-layer), the middle layer has very little impact on stiffness.

By the way, that Ziricote wood is some heavy stuff, but it sure looks good.

Composition: Framiré / I-C / Limba and Ayous / Kiri
Weight: 90.7 and 91.2g
Thickness: 5.8mm
Freq.: 1356Hz
Balance: 2.1 and 1.8cm (Very low)
