This one was a first for me, very challenging but fun experience, and also a learning opportunity. It's not easy working with balsa and cork, but at least I wanted to give it a clean look because I always see these types of blades with such clumsy edges. They also look very boring, with just a Balsa handle, but they don't have to be. It did turn out heavier than intended, and that was the learning part, but the owner was still very happy with it. For some reason I wasn't able to get a clean frequency peak, but it was definitely higher than 2000Hz.

Composition: Framiré / Balsa / Cork / Balsa / Cork / Balsa / Framiré
Weight: 85g
Thickness: 13.2mm
Freq.: ???
Balance: 4.8cm (Very High)

That is one thiiiiick blade, is the frequency high because of the cork? this does not look like a particularly fast blade

The frequency is high because it's very thick and very stiff as a consequence. It's a very a very fast blade, but it's designed to absorb energy at high impact, especially with ox pips.

Balsa is fragile but, as Yoass pointed out, having multiple layers helps.

Another flag to the collection. The blade itself was based on a Tibhar Defense plus but with a few tweaks.

Composition: Fineline / Balsa / Ayous / Ayous / Limba
Weight: 79g
Thickness: 6.4mm
Freq.: 1205Hz
Balance: 2.1cm (Very Low)

What type of wood is in this fineline?

I have some customers who like to experiment as much as I do. That makes it even more fun for me, I can also learn from their feedback, and sometimes I get to make blades that I wouldn't think of. In this case not only the compositions are different, the handles and neck all have small tweaks, trying to improve on previous iterations.

Blade 1 - Mahogany handle
Framiré/ Framiré / S-C / Kiri / S-C / Framiré / Limba - 87.4g - 6.1mm - 1464Hz - Balance: 2.9cm (Low)

Blade 2 - Black Limba handle
Limba/ S A-C / Ayous / ALC / Framiré - 89.0g - 5.75mm - 1464Hz - Balance: 3.0cm (Med)

Blade 3 - Thermally treated Ash handle
Limba/ ALC / Limba / Kiri / Limba / Kevlar / Framiré - 88.5g - 5.75mm - 1350Hz - Balance: 2.6cm (Low)

A pair of inner fiber blades, basically the same composition for both, just a different fiber used in each one. The head-size is a little bigger (158x152mm) and the handle and wings were made to be close to a Viscaria.

Brown handle - Orange Fenix
Composition: Koto / Ayous / S A-C / Kiri / S A-C / Ayous / Koto
Weight: 88.1g
Thickness: 5.85mm
Freq.: 1464Hz
Balance: 2.5cm (Low)

Black handle - Blue Fenix
Composition: Koto / Ayous / SZLC / Kiri / SZLC / Ayous / Koto
Weight: 89.1g
Thickness: 5.85mm
Freq.: 1485Hz
Balance: 2.4cm (Low)

- Do you want fibers in your blade?
- Yes.
- Which one?
- All of them!

This was one of the craziest requests I had so far, very challenging but also a fun one to make. Probably the fastest blade I've made to date! And for those of you wondering, yes, it is totally legal for competition, the amount of composite layers in this blade is less than 15% of the total thickness.

Composition: Hinoki / SZLC / Ayous / ALC / Balsa / Carbon / Balsa / ALC / Ayous / SZLC / Hinoki
Weight: 99.3g
Thickness: 8.7mm
Freq.: 1940Hz
Balance: 3.0cm (Med)

This one was a nice challenge as well. A double pips, close to the table player, was looking to maximize control and sweetspot while retaining a woody but solid feeling. After a few back and forth emails we arrived at this composition, a thin 7 ply blade with large head size, high weight but very low balance. The handle was also customized, as per his request, with two different sides.

Composition: Anigre / 5x Ayous / Anigre
Weight: 96.5g
Thickness: 5.45mm
Freq.: 990Hz
Balance: 1.9cm (Very low)
