That's basically it, but they have the same head size, it's just from the perspective.

In the middle picture there is this nice effect which makes the head with koto appear asymetric :)

What's the composition? My guess is: in the 3rd picture, from up to down:

Limba Limba Ayous ZLC Kiri Ayous ALC Limba? Limba

Limba Limba Ayous ZLC Kiri ZLC Ayous Limba Limba

Edit: I meant ALC Limba? Koto of course. But still very wrong :)

Interesting! I'd swear on my H3 that the blades are 7+2 :) Anyways, many thanks for clarifications. And for this great thread which I don't want to derail anymore...

Yes, there is an extra layer there but it's part of the handle

It's experiment time again! I really like doing these thematic blades, this time I wanted to do an all Ayous blade. The plies on this one are all crossed, this sacrifices a bit of longitudinal stiffness to gain more lateral stiffness, which gives a big homogeneity to the blade. In others words, we loose some speed but gain on stability. The sweetspot is huge for a blade of this speed class, paired with a nice feeling. It would be interesting to try other ply orientations as well, to see the changes in performance, and I also think I have enough room to add a couple more layers without making the blade too heavy. Maybe next time!

Composition: Ayous x11
Weight: 81.2g
Thickness: 6.45mm
Freq.: 1162 Hz
Balance: 3.4cm (Med)

Any guitar players out there? Can you tell me what the inspiration was? Composition and shape were based on a Gergely, and it was made as a birthday gift 🙂

Composition: Hinoki / SC / Kiri / SC / Hinoki
Weight: 89.9g
Thickness: 6.65mm
Freq.: 1590Hz
Balance: 2.5cm (Low)

Does it play an octave higher if I hold it at the end of the handle?

This is Goriki's European cousin. I've been getting a few requests to make a similar blade to Nittaku Goriki, but a little lighter since they are often well over 100g. So I switched the three inner Black Walnut layers for European Sycamore Maple. These woods are very similar in terms of mechanical properties (density and hardness), but this allowed me to shave off a few grams while still keeping a slightly enlarged head size.

Available FS.

Composition: Black Walnut / Black Walnut / Sycamore / Sycamore / Sycamore / Black Walnut / Black Walnut
Weight: 94.6g
Thickness: 4.9mm
Freq.: 968 Hz
Balance: 3.4cm (Med)

Finally someone other then me is us using Sycamore..... Great job, but it strongly reminds me about one Hungarian woodworker...

I've used Sycamore before, but yeah, it's not very popular... The inspiration was the original Goriki, just changed the color a bit to match the inner layers.
